Good to know developers, industry reps and consent granting bodies are on the same page about what the barriers to consent are and what would would help to overcome them. However, we don’t seem to agree (yet!) on how that would happen and who needs to make it happen. One of the key themes so far is giving confidence to and encouraging key stakeholders to take a leap of faith to capitalise on the momentum #floatingoffshore has right now - can developers afford to wait?
Great session at #FloatingWind24, co-organised by RenewableUK, providing expert insight on the route to streamlining the consenting process. We heard from Zoe Crutchfield from The Scottish Government, Celestia G. From RenewableUK, Nancy McLean from BlueFloat Energy | Nadara Partnership, Emily Nelson from SSE Renewables and Duncan Smart from ScottishPower Renewables whose discussion was all “solutions, solutions, solutions”. The expert panel explored orchestrating effective, relevant and efficient strategic compensation through the Marine Recovery Fund. Tight knit collaboration was a key theme of the conversation, identifying that a consolidated process - from data collection to guideline implementation - depends upon productive and efficient input from multiple stakeholders. The renewable energy industry continues to go from strength to strength, but we can’t rest on our laurels. It is a long road ahead for companies who must conquer challenges such as finding and upskilling employees, securing funding for ambitious facility investments, increasing capabilities and navigating rising costs. To build on the successes highlighted in this year’s report, supporting suppliers of all shapes and sizes to scale up their businesses must be a key priority for both the Scottish and UK Governments. Today, however, we recognise the strength, diversity and entrepreneurial spirit of the ambitious Scottish businesses who are getting it done, delivering the projects that are supplying #greenenergy to our homes. 📖 Read the Scottish Renewables' Supply Chain Impact Statement 2023/24 on our website: https://lnkd.in/eP8bF66W 🔗 Read our news release here: https://lnkd.in/exM3eCqh Thanks to our publication sponsors and supporters: BlueFloat Energy | Renantis Partnership, EDF Renewables UK & Ireland, Inch Cape Offshore Limited, Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, OW Ocean Winds and SSEN Transmission . #supplychain #energytransition #renewables #energysecurity

TagEnergy, is advancing the second stage of the monumental $4 billion Golden Plains Wind Farm in Victoria, making it the largest wind farm in the country. Despite facing rising costs and a lack of pre-signed customers, TagEnergy has secured a financing deal for the $1.8 billion second stage of this 1.33-gigawatt project near Geelong. The expansion will add 577MW of capacity, following the successful 756MW first stage, which involves investors like IKEA’s Ingka arm. Once operational, Golden Plains will supply about 9% of Victoria’s electricity, replacing supply from the soon-to-be-closed Yallourn and Loy Yang A coal power generators. TagEnergy's unique business model allows it to proceed without pre-selling output, a high-risk strategy that is reflected in its funding structure, with over $800 million in project financing and nearly $1 billion in equity. Andrew Riggs, TagEnergy’s local managing partner, expresses confidence in future energy price rises to support new projects. Despite challenges noted by major energy companies like Origin Energy, AGL, and EnergyAustralia, TagEnergy is optimistic about the market’s potential. The project is backed by sophisticated investors, including Exor N.V., Mirova, Omnes, and IMPALA SAS, which holds stakes in clean energy giant Neoen. Rystad Energy analyst David Dixon acknowledges the risk TagEnergy is taking but also highlights the potential for the company to secure major retailers and navigate market fluctuations. The Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) is providing $127.5 million in debt funding, with additional support from banks like Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, and international lenders. CEFC chief executive Ian Learmonth emphasises the project's role in Australia’s net-zero carbon emissions goal, highlighting its significance in the country's energy transition. The successful advancement of the Golden Plains Wind Farm not only illustrates the viability of large-scale renewable projects in Australia but also sets a powerful example of how determination and strategic investment can align to foster a sustainable energy future. We are particularly encouraged by TagEnergy’s commitment to proceed despite market uncertainties, demonstrating a forward-thinking approach that prioritises long-term environmental and economic benefits. #renewablenergy #windpower #sustainability #energytransition #australia #goldenplains #tagenergy #evoegy
