Recognition for your efforts at work is known to be a better motivator than money. There are lots of ways to recognise someone's outstanding work, too, whether it is a shout out in a team meeting, time-off, bonuses and so on. You could also consider introducing in-house awards, sort of like Employee of the Month. The WOW! Awards : Employee Recognition Programmes are an international program with a couple of features that makes it stand out from the others. 1. The nominations are sought from colleagues and customers. Supervisors can’t be everywhere at once to notice everyone’s great work, so it is up to those who do see it to do the nominating. 2. The judging is done at arm's length by The WOW! Awards, based on a pre-agreed criteria. This means the awards are decided independently (no bias or workplace politics at play) which gives them more impact. You can find out more about The WOW! We are delighted to share that Back Up has just won The Times and The Sunday Times Spotlight #Award for Best Place to #work for #Disabled Employees. The majority of our team either have or are affected by spinal cord injury. This lived experience shapes everything that we do including our approach to how we work. https://lnkd.in/dabJnVH3 The Sunday Times Best Places to Work awards survey uses 26 questions from WorkL's employee engagement survey, developed by behavioural scientists, data analysts, psychologists, business leaders, academics and other independent parties to most accurately monitor employee engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort in the workplace. To achieve a high overall engagement score, an organisation must score well across a six-step framework: 1. Reward and Recognition 2. Instilling Pride 3. Information Sharing 4. Empowerment 5. Wellbeing 6. Job Satisfaction In a highly engaged workplace all six steps will be seen positively by employees, albeit to varying degrees. Each of WorkL’s Six Steps consists of between three and five key elements, which are measured on a 0-10 scale. An organisation’s overall engagement score is the sum of all question responses, divided by the maximum possible value as a percentage. The Sunday Times Best Places to Work survey asks employees to respond to statements including: - I am happy with the hours I work - I am fairly paid - I am recognised when I do something well - I do something worthwhile - I feel proud to work for my organisation - Information is regularly and openly shared with me - I have enough information (and training) to do my job - My views are heard at work - I understand the organisation’s plan - I am trusted to make decisions - I have what I need to do my job well - My employer cares for my wellbeing - I rarely feel anxious or depressed about work - I feel happy at work - I am treated with respect - I have a good relationship with my manager - I am being developed - I work in a well-run organisation To be successfully accredited as a Sunday Times Best Place to Work, organisations must achieve a minimum 70 per cent overall engagement score. #STBPTW

‘I’ve found my people.’ There aren’t many events where not one but *two* people say this during the Q+A. I’ve always known that IABC Queensland attracts good people, but this was evident in spades last night. The room was electric, full of joyous and supportive energy. The panellists were generous in sharing their wisdom, and the audience responded with thoughtful questions, raucous laughter, and well-deserved applause. The night felt like magic. ✨ It almost feels reductive to talk about key takeaways when the energy was unforgettable, but here are 5 things that will stay with me: * You can’t be an effective leader or communicator if you don’t lead yourself first. * Employee engagement doesn't have to be about a glitzy annual survey (which may not be asking the Qs your team wants to answer). You can try a 'softly softly' approach, with quieter, 1:1 conversations and reflections. * We don’t like change if we perceive it’s happening *to* us. But change isn’t hard if we put people at the centre of change projects. * Effective communication – and workshop facilitation – relies on being present in the moment. Don't be so wedded to the script that you can't adapt and respond to what comes your way (even if that means dealing with a participant who refuses to engage. Thanks, Rob.) * Put people before project outcomes and the bottom line. If individuals do well, teams do well. If teams do well, businesses do well. Win-win-win.
