We really need to improve the pipeline of young talent, especially those with disadvantaged backgrounds going into tech!! "Work experience is one of the big things I’m looking at, specifically year 10 work experience. My report lays out eight things that we really need to do to improve the pipeline of young talent, especially those with disadvantaged backgrounds going into tech, and number one is more year 10 work experience programs within tech! When I speak about work experience programs, I don't mean just your local tech employer ringing on someone because, albeit that's good, I'm not saying that should stop. More tech employers I think should do that. But that is much more accessible to people that just have connections there, what about the others?'' This is a fascinating episode with our latest guest Henry Jones. Henry and Alicia Teagle discuss social mobility, the South West peninsular, diversity in tech and some ideas on how to close the ever growing digital skills gap in the UK! Dropping on Wednesday 5th June. 🎙 #techforgood #impact #socialmobility #southwest

Whilst collaborating with the biggest employers in the digital world. And helping underrepresented young people launch careers in digital. With 80% of our candidates in digital roles. Our goal is to get that number HIGHER! #WYKDIGITAL #digitalmarketingcourse #digitalskills #BreakingDigitalBarriers

Speaking at the recent Diversity in Tech Roadshow, our co-CEO Karen Blake made it clear that UK organisations need to do more when it comes to ensuring underrepresented groups are accessing upskilling and reskilling programmes. As our latest Diversity in Tech report found: 😡 Only 14% of senior tech role holders are ethnic minorities 😡 Only 20% of software engineers are women or non-binary 😡 Only 9% of tech employees are from lower socio-economic backgrounds As advances in technology are changing the demand for skills at an accelerated pace, UK organisations have an opportunity to attract and retain diverse talent, otherwise they run the risk of being left behind. Read our latest Diversity in Tech report for advice and best practices on growing a highly skilled and diverse workforce. https://hubs.la/Q02qXCMY0 #TechDiversityMatters #DiversityAndInclusion Powered by BAE Systems Digital Intelligence

The latest Diversity in Tech report from the Tech Talent Charter is worth a read providing some eye opening (although not all surprising) insights, including: 👉we found that 1 in 3 women in tech are already planning to leave their job. 👉Only 9% of tech employees are reported to be from lower socio-economic backgrounds compared to 29% in finance and 23% in law 👉Ethnic diversity in senior tech roles drops from one in four, to fewer than one in six in the senior roles. This is in spite of ethnic minority IT workers being more likely to hold higher education qualifications than their White counterparts (87% versus 67%). 👉Just 6% of tech employees are disabled despite making up 23% of the UK workforce 👉Employers report that 3% of their tech employees are neurodivergent. When asked directly 53% of tech workers identify as neurodivergent Judith Jackson-Merrick Richard James Michael Woodhead Mark M. Hozefa Jamali Naureen Khan Emmanuel Ihenacho https://lnkd.in/gSmHRECf
