Dear Midlands Businesses, I will be blunt and to the point. Tamworth is staging TEDxTamworth in March 2025. For those who don't know what TEDx Talk events are, they local events that bring the spirit of TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) to communities around the globe. Modelled after the TED format, these events consist of a series of short, carefully prepared talks, demonstrations, and performances on a wide range of subjects. There will be a limited number of tickets available (due to the rules specified by TEDx, however the event will be livestreamed globally). We are hoping to showcase the best and the brightest talent from across the Midlands with this one day event, but we also need sponsors and donors to enable us to put it on. Having just attended the The Midlands Business Network Ltd I’m convinced that we have many great companies across the whole of the Midlands (and beyond) who would be prepared to support the event with even the smallest donation/contribution. We now have a rough estimate of £30,000 to stage TEDxTamworth, so the maths are simple. We either need 300 companies to sponsor us £100 each, or 30 companies to donate £1,000 (or various combinations in between). This is a not-for-profit event - we have a venue, so everything else goes towards hosting the event and showcasing the speakers. The amazing history of TED and TEDx where it has seen immense growth and impact worldwide: 1984: TED is founded by Richard Saul Wurman, bringing together experts from Technology, Entertainment, and Design for its first conference. 1990: The first annual TED Conference is held in Monterey, California, setting the stage for future events. 2001: Chris Anderson's Sapling Foundation acquires TED, leading to the expansion of TED's mission and reach. 2006: TED Talks are made available online for free, democratizing access to ideas and knowledge. 2009: The TEDx initiative is launched, allowing independent organizers to host local, TED-like events globally under a free license from TED. 2012: The 1,000th TEDx event is held, showcasing the rapid growth and popularity of the program. 2015: TEDx events surpass 10,000, highlighting the widespread impact and community engagement. 2020: Despite the global pandemic, TED and TEDx adapt by transitioning to virtual events, continuing to share powerful ideas worldwide. #tedtalks #ted #landskrona #landskronastad #ignite #spark #hiddengems #inspire #sweden #skåne #tedxlandskrona

🐞I’ve definitely got the TEDx bug! I’m sitting on a train this morning, with my two daughters (11&14), on our way to TEDxDonauinsel 10th anniversary event.This will be their first live experience at a TEDx event, and I wonder how they’ll find it 🤔 With a mum and dad (Bertram Knappitsch) devoting a lot of time volunteering with the TEDxKlagenfurt team, I’m hoping they’ll love it.🤞🏻   People often ask me why I get involved in something so time consuming on top of my work and family life. As well as having a very fluid view of work-life integration 🤣, here’s my big fat (but very simple) WHY...   ❗️I want to hold space for other people’s ideas. It’s important.❗️   I know these ideas will make my world bigger, someone else’s world brighter or our shared worlds better. People transform the world with their ideas, but they never do it by themselves. #teamwork   So, we need to take the time to create spaces for simple, complex, reimagined, and disruptive ideas. We need to encourage people to come together, to listen (maybe to something they don’t even like), to reflect and at some level to change. How it started... An idea, a dream, a vision to create space for voices to be elevated - a place where everyone feels valued, seen and heard. An empty space ready for a TEDx transformation. How it's going... 400 people over two days descended on Middlesbrough this week to create TEDxTeessideWomen 2024. It truly was a day filled with community, ideas, curiosity, joy, and hope. We had the tough, uncomfortable conversations that matter, we laughed, we celebrated, and we made commitments to do better—together. That’s what makes TEDx special. It’s the community. It’s you.
