For the greater good! This week’s EMJ podcast, we explored the genetic determinants and mechanisms of breast and ovarian cancer. I was joined by Sofia Merajver, GreaterGood Breast Cancer Research Professor, and Director of the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Risk Evaluation Program at Michigan Medicine, Ann Arbor, USA. 📰 In a study funded by Prevent Breast Cancer, breast cancer researchers have discovered a way of keeping human breast tissue viable for at least a week outside of the body, paving the way for enhanced cancer treatments. 🗣️ Researcher Hannah Harrison explained: "Not all drugs work for all women. This new approach means that we can start to determine which drugs will work for which women by measuring their impact on living tissue." Two inflammation factors, interleukin 6 and oncostatin, are involved in these effects.
