When a university preaches ethics but practices hypocrisy, who holds them accountable? CUPE 3261 challenged the University of Toronto's contradictory actions: a $3.23B budget vs. hiring-freeze measures. Our "Practice What You Teach" campaign turned the tables, weaponizing the university's own rhetoric to expose the disconnect. #Union #Advertising #CUPE

Looking for a dynamic way to engage your Year 11-13 students in critical thinking and communication? Uehiro Oxford Institute's Practical Ethics and Responsibility Competition (PERC) is open for entries! This unique competition invites students to form small teams and create a 4-minute video exploring a pressing ethical issue. It's a great opportunity to: ✨ Spark curiosity: encourage students to delve into real-world ethical dilemmas. 💭 Develop critical thinking: students will analyse, evaluate, and present their views on complex topics. ✍ Enhance communication skills: video production requires clear and concise presentation of ideas. 🤝 Foster collaboration: teamwork fosters communication and problem-solving within the student team. Anything related to practical ethics and moral responsibility is welcome – curious about where the responsibility lies for climate change, or whether humans owe it to other humans to remain healthy? You’re welcome to explore the ethics behind these questions, and send us your entry. For topic ideas and other information, head over to the PERC website for full details and how to enter your student team: https://lnkd.in/e_DWtcsh #education #ethics #responsibility #competition #oxforduniversity #practicalethics TORCH | The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities #OxfordHumanities

Today I attended my Research Methods and Business Ethics class at Wittenborg University. We dove headfirst into the world of applied research, discussing how to pinpoint a real-world problem, select a suitable case study, and craft a solution-oriented research design. Basically, we learned how to organize the information in an academic way and present that article. It was a fascinating introduction to the practical side of research, and some day these methods should be apply to my own projects. Solidarity has always been one of my favorite terms and one I found conspicuously rare in the U.S. even when I attended grad school and took ethics courses, solidarity is a less common ethical principle in the U.S. as it counters hyper individualism. this article is very worth your time to read. Solidarity IS the answer and we must practice together, now. https://lnkd.in/eac9xB4X

Ann Skeet @leaderethics and I address the current wave of protests and why university leaders and boards must make decisions that serve the common good: "How do university presidents lead and how should university governing boards discharge their responsibilities in these “challenging times?” Each must recognize the imperative to act in the university’s best interest, protecting its mission, reputation, and academic excellence. Doing so enhances public trust in the university and its leadership, which is critical to future support and success. And trust advances an overarching ethical standard of acting for the common good." #ethics #highered #highereducation https://lnkd.in/gVRmCcwR

I will contribute the chapter “Impact of unethical behavior on corporate reputation and shareholder value of listed companies” to this book, which is part of my MBA dissertation.
I am really pleased to share our newest project: An academic book on business ethics in practice that will be published early 2025. I am particularly excited to work alongside Dr. Marion Kahrens and Winkate Bendig on this as co-authors on a topic that is so dear to me. Stay tuned for more updates (or pre-order now!)! https://lnkd.in/gQ9Yj2Ac #BusinessEthics #EthicsAuthor #AcademicBook #Academia

Period! Leaders often forget that they have the power to make or break the system and it all depends on how much and what kind of behaviour they allow for in the organisation. #workplaceculture #leadership #leadersoftoday

I am thrilled to announce the publication of my latest paper, '𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀: 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁', published by Jus Cogens: A Critical Journal of Philosophy of Law and Politics. In this paper, I explore the concept of 'corporate sovereignty' where companies, much like states, act not only as economic entities but also as political actors, exercising a unique form of sovereignty. By leveraging Carl Schmitt's political theology, I delve into how corporate power manifests in contemporary reality and the implications this has for business ethics. As corporate influence grows and state authority is increasingly contested, understanding these dynamics is crucial. This paper argues for a broader approach to business ethics, incorporating political theology to better grasp the power structures at play. I am grateful for the advice of my esteemed colleague Jeroen Veldman (Nyenrode Business Universiteit) on this contribution and look forward to engaging in meaningful discussions on this topic. Attached a preview of the paper. #PhilosophyOfLaw #LegalPhilosophy #PoliticalTheology #BusinessEthics #CorporateSovereignty #CarlSchmitt #JusCogens #PoliticalReligion #Sovereignty #CorporateLaw #CompanyLaw #CorporateGovernance #Ethics #Philosophy #LegalTheory
