Renk town in #SouthSudan has been a refuge for people fleeing the war in #Sudan since April 2023. As of early this month, nearly 739,000 refugees and returnees have crossed over to the neighbouring country in search of safety. The influx of people has quickly swamped transit centres, which are now overpopulated and strained well beyond capacity, with tens of thousands stranded in and around the sites, and more streaming into Renk and other border towns. This has put immense pressure on the already severely limited resources available. Most families live in crowded and inadequate makeshift tents, some for prolonged periods of time. Conditions are dire, perpetuating suffering. There isn’t enough food, water, shelter, sanitation facilities or medical care, and many people arrive injured, acutely malnourished or ill, having walked for weeks to get there. They've had to leave a whole part of their lives behind and start all over with nothing but what they managed to carry. The journey is perilous and distressing, fraught with challenges. While they've escaped conflict up north, life down south is not untroubled. 👉 Swipe for heart-wrenching stories of horror, loss and trauma, but also incredible strength and resilience. What are the recent returnees of Sinjar currently facing? 🚨 During mid-May, the Kurdistan Region camps were hosting about 157,000 people, many of whom were from Sinjar, according to the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Interior Ministry. After the announcement of the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement, which set July 30 as a deadline to encourage returns, many families who spent 10 years living in camps near Sulaimaniyah, Erbil and Duhok, decided to go back to Sinjar. The returnees are now facing severe challenges, including the unavailability of water, safe accommodation, and jobs. 💧🏠🚫 Read our article to know more about the situation of the recent returnees and how together, we can provide support: https://lnkd.in/dyRYTHp6

On June 20 for the "Standing in Solidarity" event, I had the privilege of introducing and closing a crucial discussion on displaced communities in #Burma, specifically in #Chin, #Karenni, and #Shan states. I aimed to highlight the pressing issue of Burma's expanding displacement community and their daily struggles. 🔘Since the 2021 coup, over 1.3 million refugees, 3 million IDPs, and 632,000 #stateless individuals have struggled amidst armed conflict and natural disasters like #CycloneMocha. In October 2023, conflict further escalated and worsened conditions, creating an urgent humanitarian crisis that demands our attention. The situation facing #IDPs and #refugees in Burma is dire. Many endure cramped living conditions, food and water shortages, and unsanitary environments, exacerbating their vulnerability. The international community must step up now with immediate humanitarian aid and policies that support these displaced communities. ______ 🎞️ Watch the full video to hear more from our insightful speakers working directly on the ground in Chin, Karenni, and Shan states, and join us in standing in solidarity with Burma's displaced communities: https://lnkd.in/dzDGDgxg

#Republican Or #Democrat This is bipartisan issue. Why is it so hard to make it so? American has the power to apply pressure where needed, NOT just on Israel, but on the #IRGC and it's #proxies to make this happen. Why is all the pressure being put on Israel? Why does no one put the blame and responsibility where it belongs? Why is there talk about a humanitarian crisis, when the aid is getting in but not being distributed where needed because the aid organisations are being stymied by the very people who started the war and in whose best interests are to keep it going? Why? Why? Why? Bring them home #bringthemhome

War is a vicious storm, uprooting lives and scattering hopes like fallen leaves. The story of refugees fleeing Myanmar isn’t just another rainy Wednesday forecast—this is a tempest. Picture a relentless cyclone spinning lives into chaos, only for these uprooted souls to find a haven amid the overcast skies. In the eye of this storm, some have found sanctuary in refugee camps, a metaphorical walled garden shielded by hedges of faith & freedom. Here, peace resembles a tender blossom blooming amid ruins, with stories like I Felt the Love of Jesus serving as sun rays piercing through ominous clouds. ⛺ War-torn Wanderers: Myanmar's refugees are akin to leaves carried by wild winds, seeking ground where roots can clutch the soil. ❤️ Spiritual Oasis: In the debris of despair, the love of Jesus shines through, transforming the refugee camp not into just a shelter but a divine home. Yet, let’s not romanticize too much. Picture this: fleeing bullets and bombshells only to hang hope on the delicate thread of uncertain asylum. It's like betting everything on a prayer and one lucky dice roll. Sure, the camp offers peace, but what kind? The taste of bread after days of famine? Yes. A seamless solution to years of scars? Hardly. Predicting the future here feels like juggling knives under a spotlight. The scars of war run too deep, and healing demands more than faith; it craves systemic change. Pessimism invites us to question whether peace holds when world powers play chess with lives as pawns. Optimism whispers that maybe, just maybe, today’s tents may transform into tomorrow’s homes. At the crossroads of disillusionment and hope, one thing is clear: these refugees are more than statistics. They embody the relentless human spirit, a testament to resilience despite chronic adversity. As they weather today's storms, let's indulge in a collective aspiration—that this shelter of faith and freedom transcends temporary relief, morphing into lasting sanctuary. #FaithAndFreedom #HumanResilience #RefugeeHope #MyanmarCrisis #GlobalPeace https://lnkd.in/emdgfXDV

Eleven years ago a true disaster struck near Lambedusa. A boat with mostly Eritrean refugees capsized. 366 died! Only 155 survived. The author of this book, Karina Horsti, has tirelessly followed survivors and others' memorialising the disaster and keeping it alive in the years following. An amazing book has come out her efforts and analytical skills. You can hardly study international migration without reading this stunning book. Here is my review: https://lnkd.in/daKZYmDc

@ UK/FCDO’s launch of its SHAMIL programme supporting a more inclusive social protection system in Jordan. Disappointed that no one mentions the potential inclusion of “refugees” into this “inclusive” system—even the most vulnerable among them (not work-able), and with direct donor/UN $ support—considering: —how much money refugees pump into the Jordanian economy and thus, contribute to its geopolitical stability. —Syrian refugees have been here for more than a decade and are well integrated into Jordan’s social fabric, and —the new generation (either born and/or raised in Jordan) will likely want stay in Jordan given the lack of opportunity back “home”. We will see. We will continue to advocate for more sustainable and durable solutions for refugees—here in Jordan and everywhere. #ceasefirenow

A devastating maritime tragedy has unfolded off the coast of Comoros, where at least 25 people, including women and children, have lost their lives after traffickers allegedly capsized their boat. The incident occurred late Friday between the Comoros island of Anjouan and the French island of Mayotte, a perilous route that has claimed many lives. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) confirmed that five survivors were rescued by fishermen the following morning, revealing that around 30 individuals were aboard the vessel, including seven women and six young children. The IOM expressed sorrow over the incident, highlighting the tragic circumstances faced by these migrants. The dire economic conditions in Comoros drive many to undertake dangerous journeys for a chance at a better life in Mayotte. Although Mayotte is one of the poorest regions of France, it offers better infrastructure and welfare services compared to its neighboring islands. Nearly half of Comoros' 900,000 residents live below the poverty line, exacerbating the migration crisis. This tragedy is not isolated; there have been multiple similar incidents in recent months, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced protection for vulnerable migrants. The IOM calls for a concerted effort to tackle the root causes of migration and prevent further loss of life in perilous conditions. 🔗 For further insights, please visit https://lnkd.in/gpWvd4fW #swifteradio #walltowall #diasporaradio #ImmigrantRadio #africansindiaspora #nigeriansindiaspora #DiasporaImmigrant
