Regency Recycle is celebrating National Careers Week! This weeklong, UK-wide celebration of careers guidance aims to help young people develop awareness and excitement about their future pathways. One thing we’ve come to realise over the years though is that quite often, the guidance offered in academic settings tends to be quite focussed on certain career paths only (certainly, none of our careers advisors ever told us about a career in waste management!). However, from office administration, to truck driving, to developing sustainable strategies for the ethical disposal of waste, our industry offers some of the most diverse and rewarding jobs (and yes, we might be a bit biased….) . . . . . #nationalcareersweek #greencareers #regencyrecycle #teamregency #recycle #recycling #recyclingiscool #recyclinggoals #recyclingmotivation #zerowaste #waste #wastemanagement #wasteclearance #wasteclearancelondon #london #londonlife #licensedwastecarrier #clearance #clearances #houseclearance #commercialcleaning #keepbritaintidy #sustainability #conservation #cleanup #cleanupcrew #everyjobisdifferent #customerservice #servicewithasmile

A few months ago, an email landed in my inbox—a call for secondment positions. At first, I hesitated. Should I apply? Would I be selected? Could I hold my own in a new role alongside people with years of experience, some even from outside the communications field? These doubts felt heavy, but soon, they became my reason to try. The very challenges that made me question myself became the motivation I needed to step out of my comfort zone. This moment made me reflect on the Dunning-Kruger effect—the idea that sometimes, those with limited experience undervalue their abilities while others with more confidence may overestimate theirs. I realized I was holding myself back not because I lacked skill, but because I was underestimating my potential. So, I applied. And to my excitement (and slight disbelief), I got selected! For one month, I had the privilege of working as the Sustainability Support/ Communications Officer with the Environment and Sustainability Support Team at Campbelltown City Council, SA. In this role, I got to: -Develop strategic communications and project management plans. -Craft engaging content to drive sustainability initiatives. -Support meaningful programs like the Campbelltown Cool Spaces Program to help the community during heatwaves. -Raise awareness about waste management and sustainability. This experience pushed me to grow, learn, and contribute in ways I never imagined . It taught me that stepping into the unknown—no matter how daunting can lead to some of the most rewarding moments in your journey. As I return to my role as Youth Officer (Programs and Events), I carry with me a newfound confidence and gratitude for the opportunity to challenge myself. For anyone who’s debating whether to take that leap: You’ll never know your potential until you give yourself the chance to try!

Last week for Green Careers Week, Sarah Ellison, our sustainability lead, joined a panel of local employers to speak to The Sheffield College students about what green careers are and how to develop the green skills that are increasingly important in the workplace. 🍃 Sarah gave an overview of the greener NHS programme, what a transition to a net zero healthcare provider involves and, most importantly, what skills we need now and in the future to support greener, cleaner and more sustainable mental healthcare delivery. It is vital that our whole communities are not only aware of climate change and the actions required to combat it, but also aware of the huge task required to ensure employees are ready and willing to be reskilled or upskilled to meet the needs of the future. That's why Green Careers Week is all about promoting careers that genuinely will make a difference, contributing to healthier people and a healthier planet. 🌍

Green Careers Week is an exciting event that raises aspiration, supports diversity, challenges stereotypes, and promotes real opportunities for young people to have a career that will genuinely make a difference. A green career can be any job, role or occupation that contributes to preserving or restoring the environment and our planet. It can be any industry, not just those seen as ‘green.’ Green skills are abilities, attributes, values, attitudes, knowledge, and technical skills needed to adapt services, processes and procedures to support climate change. Green careers are a fast-growing global employment sector that touches every company, employer, employee, and education establishment. Requiring everyone to work together to build a talent pipeline from school through to employment for the thousands and thousands of jobs and roles needed for the future. Check out the link here and see how these companies and many more are raising awareness of green careers through activity resources, case studies, webinars, videos, events, and employment information: https://lnkd.in/eJK3EBXw Dorset LEP The Careers & Enterprise Company Dorset Council UK BCP Council Dorset Skills Helen Stevenson Jan Champney Yasmin Brown Clare Dunn Janek Tarnawski Penny Charrett Catherine Beater David Wakeford Michelle Pickard #greencareersweek #employment #future #skills #talent #education #dorset
