🌱 The Underplayed Giant: Food & Agriculture 🌾 As someone who has spent their entire academic and professional career immersed in wind energy, sustainable technologies, and scientific computation, I’ve always taken immense pride in contributing to our collective journey toward net zero. The promise of renewable energy and groundbreaking aerospace innovations seemed like the ultimate calling for creating a sustainable future. I’ve found myself wondering on an often overlooked truth: the food and agriculture industry is, quite literally, the foundation of our survival. In an era when industries like AI, quantum computing, and eVTOL capture headlines and receive astronomical funding, it's easy to overlook the quiet yet critical role of food systems. Yes, these cutting-edge technologies are important, but can we truly thrive without addressing how we feed a growing population, sustainably and equitably? Consider this: 🌍 Food systems contribute significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions, yet they hold the key to some of the most impactful sustainability solutions. 🌾 Advances in agricultural technology and processing have the potential to not only combat food insecurity but also reduce waste, conserve water, and optimize energy use. 🍎 Food is not just fuel for our bodies—it’s the heart of our cultures, communities, and economies. The recent "hype" around emerging technologies is exciting, and I don’t want to downplay their value. But as someone who has dedicated years to addressing global energy challenges, I now see that prioritizing food and agriculture is not just a necessity—it’s an imperative. #FoodSecurity #Sustainability #AgricultureTech #NetZero #Innovation

🚀 Breaking news: Phlair has raised €14.5 million to revolutionize large-scale, low-cost CO₂ capture! Why does it matter? 🌍 Urgent climate action is needed – Even with rapid emissions cuts, we can’t keep global temperatures at safe levels without removing the CO₂ we’ve already emitted. Some of this CO₂ will remain in the atmosphere for centuries. 🌍 Massive carbon removal is required – According to the IPCC, hundreds of billions of tons of CO₂ must be removed by the end of this century to meet global climate targets. 💸 Phlair is tackling the cost barrier – While current methods cost up to $1,000 per metric ton of CO₂ captured, Phlair’s innovative approach could bring costs down significantly by avoiding energy-intensive heat processes. The technology? 💡 Phlair uses a unique “pH swing” method to capture carbon without relying on thermal regeneration. Their hydrolyzer technology, inspired by hydrogen industry advancements, uses acids and bases to capture and release CO₂ efficiently. 💡 Phlair’s pilot project will capture 10 metric tons of CO₂ annually, with larger, 260-metric-ton plants set to launch by late 2025. Huge congratulations to Malte Feucht, Paul Teufel, and Steffen Garbe on this milestone! We’re proud at Planet A Ventures to support Phlair alongside Extantia, Verve Ventures, Atlantic Labs, Counteract, and UnternehmerTUM.

🌱 One of the key ambitions of Project TOLERATE is to make the rhizo-microbiome fit for the future. As part of the European Green Deal and Horizon Europe program, we prioritize developing novel feedstocks with low environmental footprints and higher climate resilience. Our approach involves engineering modern rhizosphere soil bacteria to produce biomolecules that enhance climate adaptation traits, such as EPS, osmoprotectants, extremozymes, and heat-shock proteins. These engineered bacteria will serve as bioinoculants, supporting plant growth under drought conditions. Join us in driving sustainable innovation for a resilient future. #ClimateChange #Sustainability #Biotechnology #GreenDeal
