Australia's recent social media ban for under-16s sparks a vital question: Should the U.S. consider similar measures to protect our youth's mental health? Australia’s bold step shows that regulation is possible. While there may be significant challenges, we need to learn from them. If they can implement these changes, why can’t we? #YouthWellbeing #DigitalSafety #MentalHealthMatters #EpicOwl

Today, on World Health Day, we reflect on this year's theme: "My Health, My Rights." In the spirit of fostering an environment where mental health is given paramount importance, it's crucial to highlight the strides made under India's Mental Healthcare Act (MHCA) 2017. This progressive legislation empowers individuals with mental illness by ensuring their rights to access quality mental health care and treatment without discrimination. It also decriminalizes suicide, acknowledging the need for compassionate support rather than punitive measures. Let's use #WorldHealthDay to spread awareness about the MHCA 2017 and advocate for a society where mental health care is a right, not a privilege. #MentalHealthMatters #MyHealthMyRights #MHCA2017 #partnerships #Health #socialimpact #patientrights

Reading reports like this sparks many thoughts, and for me, it prompts reflection on my own competency as a psychologist. A theme that stands out - and it’s not new - is that people aren’t getting the help they need, even when they manage to access services. The statistics from this poll (admittedly not peer-reviewed) are telling: only 37% of people reported getting the help they needed for their mental health, leaving 63% without adequate support. Men, rural and remote residents, and young adults too frequently report negative experiences with help-seeking. This is particularly troubling given that the therapeutic alliance - arguably the most important factor in achieving positive outcomes - is so critical. What’s going wrong in the delivery of services? There’s compelling evidence suggesting that professionals, including psychologists, often overestimate their abilities. Those with lower competence are more likely to overestimate their skills, while more competent individuals may underestimate themselves. Increasing the workforce is important, but without improving the quality of care, we risk more people receiving substandard support. As health professionals, we have an ethical duty to provide services with care and competence, continually grounded in professional development and feedback. What’s the feedback on why services aren’t meeting consumers' needs for those who do access them?

Australia just did it. Should the world follow? Australia’s bold new law banning social media for teenagers is a wake-up call for all of us. Why does this matter? 📉 Less screen time means better mental health. 💔 Stronger connections with family and friends. 🌍 More time to care for the planet, not just scroll through it. Digital addiction doesn’t just harm us—it disconnects us from nature and sustainability. Let’s raise a generation that values trees over TikTok. What’s your take on Australia’s move? Should more countries follow suit? #DigitalWellness #MentalHealth #Sustainability #ConsciousParenting #AustraliaLeadTheWay

June is dedicated to #MensHealthMonth, but we proudly stand in solidarity with our community year-round, committed to lifting the veil and reshaping public perception about men's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.💙 For too long, men seeking health care has been a topic of shame to be shelved or buried until it becomes too serious to ignore. Rather than "toughen up" or "pull up your bootstraps," we're encouraging all men and their loved ones to take that first, second, third, seventh step, especially concerning depression, substance abuse, and suicide. Because, we'll say it as many times as we need to before you believe — seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let's make men's health a priority, today and every day. #EndTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #YouNeedToHearThis #JFlowersHealthInstitute #SeekHelp #TakeTheFirstStep #SuicidePrevention #Addiction #SubstanceAbuse
