Broken Promises
A few days back I received an email from an old mentor of mine, Taki Moore …
His email was aimed at people like me (Coaches/Consultants etc.)...
But I think the message relates just as strongly to you as a Recruitment or Search Business Owner…
You see,
Most of us quit our jobs, invest our own personal time and cash into starting and building a Recruitment or Search business because of the “promise” …
And as Taki puts it, that promise is made up of three things.
- Income – This industry has the potential to generate incredible cash flow. Being employed as a consultant working for someone else provided you with a good salary, but you wanted to go off on your own and take a more significant cut of the commission.
- Impact – You want to help your clients and candidates get the best possible results. In fact, for a lot of people, the reason they started their business in the first places was because they knew they could offer a better service than what was already available.
- Independence – Owning your own business should mean you can come and go as you please, spend more time with your family, not have to answer to anyone and ultimately have more freedom.
Despite all this, the majority of Recruitment and Search Business Owners I talk to are falling short in at least ONE of these three areas… And sometimes they’re falling short in ALL three at once…
Not getting the income they want,
Not helping their clients as much as they could OR not helping enough of them,
And with zero freedom, often working harder and longer hours than they ever have before… But with diminishing returns,
Left with a reasonably successful business but one littered with broken promises and unfulfilled dreams…
So why does this happen?
It all comes down to not having a working, reliable, predictable and scalable marketing process…
Income comes down to getting the right clients at the right fees whenever you want them…
Most Recruitment and Search Firm Owners struggle massively when it comes to client attraction, and because they struggle with client attraction, they can never get the volume of clients they want through the door…
Occasionally they’ll have a lot of work on, but then things drop right back off, and they’re back at square one…
Two steps forward but two steps back!
Ultimately no movement and zero growth…
This creates unpredictability in the business which is usually compounded by consultants underperforming or only performing in patches…
It leads to up and down cash flow and massive amounts of uncertainty…
More risk with little reward…
And usually ends up with the owner running around trying to pick up all the pieces,
Having to bill just to cover the costs of under-performers,
Sucking up their free time,
Swallowing their independence,
All of a sudden, they’re running ever faster just to stay in the same place….
