Food Security Crises Going on in the U.S
U.S. farmers are under siege, but these attacks are also happening worldwide. The first farmers to receive governmental interference in the Amish community, a self-sustaining pioneer-type community, grow their food, make their foods, make furniture, and other products. They are Bible-believing people who stay on their own but also sell their products to stores and sell foods at farmer's markets and roadside stands.
The U.S. imports more agricultural products than it exports, which concerns small farmers. According to compiled statistics by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)-Economic Research Service, as reported by Christine Whitt, Jessica E. Todd, and James M. MacDonald, 98% are family farms in the U.S. Approximately 90% of small farms' gross income less than $350,000 and 22% of production. This small farm information is in the "America's Diverse Family Farms, 2020 Edition of the USDA.
According to the New York Post, as reported by Mary Kay Linge, The Cassaday's Family Farm in Monroeville, New Jersey. The Cassaday family arrived from Ireland in 1895 to farm and provide fresh foods to stores and markets. There is no set standard for the local produce distance. Most Organic and permaculture farmers sell their fresh food products within 500 miles or less. People want to buy fresh foods that are grown organically without pesticides or chemicals. Commercial agriculture continues to use GMOs, pesticides, and chemicals to treat food crops and prevent insects from destroying crops.
George Cassaday says, "The New York area supermarket chains use deceptive marking practices to fool consumers while undercutting local farmers. " This is where small farms lose money. Organic farming has to be certified by the USDA, but first, the land cannot be farmed for up to three years to remove any possible pesticides and chemicals from the soil.
Organic farmers and permaculture farmers rotate their crops as each planting season comes; the farmers start with the larger crops and work down each season to the minor crops. As a farmer rotates crops, each crop will introduce nutrients into the soil. If the farmers continued to plant the same crops for several years or up to seven years, the soil could become useless, science the nutrients would disappear, and no crops would grow. An example is the 1930's "Dust Bowl of Oklahoma". Soil scientists and researchers from the federal government and universities had to treat the soil to build up nutrients so crops could grow again in Oklahoma.
Famers in the U.S. and worldwide are facing enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and laws. For example, Amos Miller owns and operates his family's organic farm in Pennsylvania. Miller states, "he does not use electricity, fertilizers, or gasoline to help plow. He is old school and plows like many other Amish farmers have done for the last 200 years." What happened was raw milk from the Miller Organic Farm, and the illness listeriosis in 2014 was traced back to his farm. One person who was infected had to be placed in the hospital, and the other person sadly died.
The USDA has been attempting to bring farms into compliance with federal regulations. Mr. Miller is now facing possible jail time and fines for his non-compliance. A federal judge has issued a cease-all meat sale order. Authorized U.S. Marshals brought the court order, and the officers used reasonable force to gain entry into the Miller farm to inspect with federal USDA inspectors.
Republicans are introducing a bill that would create a constitutional amendment that would help change how Americans eat and give small farms a chance to succeed without being drowned out by extensive Agricultural commercial farming. Currently, federal law requires milk shipped across state lines to be pasteurized. Sadly, a person has died. Warning labels should be placed on raw milk.
The other issue comes to National Security when companies from China can buy large amounts of farmland next to critical key infrastructure or a U.S. Military base. Many states have been making state laws where companies from China can no longer buy any more farmland and require those companies to sell their land, so Chinese business ownership and control will not be allowed. China owns farmland close to Grand Forks Air Force Base. Fufeng Group owns the land and has close ties with the Chinese Government. China's ownership of plants and farmland is a threat to the national security and food security of the United States.
According to Politico reporter Marcia Brown, small farmers have complained to the current administration and are not getting any help or support, and more small farms are vanishing. The USDQA is leveraging all it can to help promote competition and keep small ranchers and farmers from disappearing from the U.S. The implementation policies of the USDA are not enough and need to be more aggressive to restore the past levels and numbers of small farms. Big Agriculture has been creating a monopoly that causes small farms to be able to compete because the big commercial farms can spend millions, that small farms cannot and cannot compete. Also, government regulations should be more relaxed and affect small farms and ranchers' ability to earn a living and stay in business.
Farmers worldwide are protesting because of governmental interference regulations and laws that are reducing the capacity of farmers to continue or maintain past and current food production levels. The European Union (EU) has rulings to restrict and not allow farmers to continue their profession and not allowed to continue farming in Holland or anywhere in the EU, that Cattle are producing too much gas emissions, that the global elites have supported to reduce food capacity to the world and introduce insects as the future protein for foods on our planet. Another problem is that super wealth has brought a large amount of farmland.
A decade-old government program pays farmers to leave the land alone, not farm, and the Biden Administration sees this as a solution to the climate change agenda. President Joe Biden believes that to combat climate change, we must pay more farmers not to farm. So, the plan is for ranchers and farmers to leave the land idle while food prices continue to rise and depend on big commercial agriculture and imports of foods.
Also, small farmers are having difficulty obtaining farm loans, and when they receive those loans, they are at a much higher interest rate. With 98 percent of the farms owned by families and individuals, our food supply is decreasing. Foods are being transported by cargo ships that may be hundreds or thousands of miles away, the quality is deteriorating, and spoilage of foods before they reach their final destination. It would be best for the U.S. to enact regulations and funding to help support food production. Reduce the distance food needs to get into the grocery stores or markets in the U.S. If small farmers continue to lose their livelihood, there will be less food for everyone, and prices will reach an all-time high. Having food transported from several hundred miles to thousands of miles away will or can cause National Security Crises and food security crises.
“Federal Drug and Food Administration oversees food safety, and in commercial agriculture, people have gotten sick or died because pesticides are harmful to humans; this is coming from the National Library of Medicine-National Center for Biotechnology Information.” “According to their data, a regulatory gap in the U.S. puts Americans at health risk. The FDA is struggling to effectively manage the safety of hundreds of chemicals, which is putting our children’s health at health risk.”
Today, there are more than 10,000 chemicals commonly referred to as food additives. Now, food processors plan to add insect ingredients into our foods from a leader in insect food additives from Protix of Holland to add more protein nutrition. Does this sound yummy or not? You decide! At the same time, governments worldwide are Causing farmers to go out of business due to governmental overreach policies. These food additives have contributed to causing cancer, heart disease, obesity, digestive issues, diabetes, and, in some cases, food poisoning or death. This could cause a local food crisis at the local, regional, state or national level, and create civil unrest.
The FDA is unable to control or recognize new food additives introduced under the GRAS loophole. In other words, the FDA takes the word of the food processing companies that the chemicals are safe to add to our food products. More than 10,000 chemicals have avoided scrutiny by the FDA GRAS exemption. When people become ill or die, the companies that added these additives to our food call into question the GRAS exemption.
We cannot trust commercial agriculture to protect us from harmful chemicals or ingredients being added to our food in the United States; the FDA needs to add more inspections to protect America from the dangers of these foreign items being put in our foods. This why we need to protect small farming businesses; they are family and individually owned, and they are aware of doing the right thing so they can stay in business; many of these small farmers develop friendships and business coops to sell their quality foods without the use of pesticides, GMO’s, and adding chemicals. The European Union and many countries worldwide do not accept U.S. food products in their markets because of the use of questionable substances and ingredients in U.S. food products.

Having food and ingredients transported from long distances could be complicated by sea pirates, conflicts, or war, disrupting the food supply chain to receive food products. The current administration created open borders where we now have over 7.6 million people who are here illegally; what will happen when the food supply chain is broken? People will be fighting for their survival, and this can turn into a violent situation. We will face a food security crisis if small farmers do not introduce a bill to ensure regulations that protect small farmers and allow them to operate in a free market. Check the ingredient’s on your food products before you buy!
