National Former POW Recognition Day - Remembering Louis Zamperini
On this National #FormerPOWRecognitionDay, we honor all of our American heroes who were captured and imprisoned by foreign powers and salute them for their resilience, strength, and courage while carrying out their duties to defend our country. Countless American service members have been held as prisoners of war (POWs) throughout our nation’s history, enduring harsh treatment, merciless conditions, as well as the pain of being separated from their families. Louis "Louie" Zamperini is one of these amazing heroes, as a bombardier in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Zamperini was in a plane that went down, and when he arrived on shore in Japan 47 days later, he was taken as a prisoner of war and remained there for two years.
I had the privilege of sharing the speaking platform with Louie in 2003 and found his story incredibly inspiring! If you’re looking for a great movie to watch, I highly recommend Unbroken! It’s based on Louie’s amazing story and it will definitely inspire you! In these incredibly challenging times, this movie really puts things into perspective. If these men, along with Louie Zamperini can survive what they went through, we can achieve anything, if we set our mind to it!
