Negotiation an Art

Negotiation an Art

Negotiation either an art, science or mix of both but at least it is one of the great skill one can have. It is the start and end of every successful deal, a negotiation is the essential part either you are a job seeker or job producer, employer or employee, doctor or patient, lawyer or mediator, teacher or student, traveler or visitor, buyer or seller, retailer etc. it is a result driven art and is highly applicable.

We negotiate at every stage of our lives. As a child we negotiate with our parents to take us to the zoo, as a young we negotiate with ourselves which area to choose and why? Most of the time we fail, conflicts get arises and doubts get strong. But after the process from negotiation to conflict and then to doubts and fighting there is only one way we are lift with and that is again negotiation. It is sometime a cyclic process and it brings you back to point where you will have to negotiate.

There are numbers of wars fought in this world, and you can see what the ultimate result was? To negotiate, set on the table and listen to each other’s concerns. The first and most important part of a successful negotiation is listening capability, if one is not listening to each other so how can he/she be a successful negotiator.

There are several times that most people have serious concern with each other but that get resolved why? Because of a skilled negotiator among them either from both the entities and a third party mediator/ negotiator. Even countries get close to war and then they become great friends due to the negotiation.

I believe a negotiation is always win-win because it saves lives, it protects interest, it keeps friends, negotiation converts enmity into friendship. A negotiation can be more effective if it can be used in an effective way some factors needed a negotiation process can be effective, one if parties are willing to listen to each other, two timing of the negotiation process.

Suppose if you get late to negotiate then much are the chances that the conflict may will get more worsened. Therefore being on time in negotiation and problem resolving is very much crucial. And the third step is the willingness to bargain with each other, if either party is not willing to have a deal then there is no way of a successful negotiation.

Negotiation comes from experiences; the more you are used in it the more you will be effective. For example I have friends/ my elders with whom I always stay during my weekend’s time. And these three friends are those people who always remain among the society, listening to people’s problems and provide them with the solutions. And they become a third party of a conflict and resolution process. It is because a conflict can be better resolved when you as negotiator/ mediator become a neutral part of it.

So whenever I listen to my friends I thought resolving and a negotiation is far away I even don’t understand what actually they are talking about? They usually listen and have a debate in my presence with people but by listening to people concerns they quickly understand what the problem is and how it can be resolved. But with me even setting in amongst I can’t understand even what the problem is?

It is because I have no experience in negotiation, this is due to the lack of practical exposure. And to be a good negotiator you need to have knowledge of the society environment you are living in or connected with, but along with this you need to have practical experiences. It is due to high experiences that usually we see a vegetable vender, a fruit seller, some shopkeepers a very effective negotiator. It is because of their involvement and practical exposure they gained experiencing with different people.

At the end I will conclude that either which society we belongs to/ connected with, we need to listen each other’s concern, Play a role of effective negotiator and resolve each other’s issues. It will make our society strongly bonded with each other and everyone will enjoy their equal rights.
