The story in the battle for XR consumer adoption takes a new twist...

It's never dull in XR-Land, and September 2023 has picked up the slack for a quiet summer and then some. As devices, demos, and previews abound, I've picked up just some of the stories that were posted this month.

Let's get cracking...

Meta, Quest 3, AI & Smart Glasses

This last month we saw some pretty heavy-duty leaks coming out about the release of the Meta Quest 3, some new rumoured devices, and finally got the official launch at the end. Here's how the month panned out.

And finally, after the big reveal, I wrote a post with my thoughts on the new Meta

Quest 3 headset and its potential impact given the Apple Vision Pro is still up to six months out.

Apple:

More news, reviews, and gossip emerged about the Apple Vision Pro:

We had the Apple iPhone event in the middle of the month which saw new iPhones and Apple Watches be reviewed and demoed. Among the many incremental advances made, the little section at the end of the announcement caught my eye. 'Spatial Video', what was called 3D video only in June, now with a new term, Apple poured heaps of concrete into the foundation of 'companion devices' with the new iPhone 15 being designed to capture Spatial Video specifically for consumption in the Vision Pro headset. A taste of things to come.

Amazon:

Amazon slipped in some news about its very own advances in AI and accompanying hardware:

Huawei:

Huawei's wearable strategy rivals Apple's. Some fascinating transitionary products that don't look out of place or too 'futuristic". You should see the smart glasses in this video.

Thanks so much, if you've scrolled this far, and I hope you've enjoyed and possibly learned something, from a quick look back through Sep. 2023.

Please do subscribe if you'd like to see these recaps periodically - about once a month.

Do add a comment or two for constructive feedback, it's always welcome and sometimes acted upon. 👍

Have a wonderful few weeks and I hope to see you here again.

Dan.
