Smallfry's September Events Calendar:

Innovate UK Events

On September 11, Kelly Myall-Chance attended two Innovate UK events: "Innovate UK West Midlands Action Plan: One Year On" and "Start-up Connect".

The panel at the Innovate UK: One Year On event on September 11th.

Partners & Pastries Event

Kelly Myall-Chance was out of the office again, as she visited Barclays Eagle Labs in Oxford to attend another of TBAT Innovation Ltd's Partners & Pastries breakfast events.

Having hosted the event as a TBAT partner in June, Smallfry always find TBAT's business breakfast events to be a great opportunity to remain engaged and unlock cross-sector collaborations.

The Emergency Services & Emergency Tech Shows

Held at The NEC, Birmingham on September 18-19th, The Emergency Services Show and The Emergency Tech Show were two inspiring events that Kelly Myall-Chance really enjoyed visiting in September.

The Blue Zone Consortium Networking Event

Blue zones are areas across the world with lower rates of chronic disease, in which people live longer healthier lives.

The Blue Zone Consortium is designed to support researchers to overcome traditional disciplinary boundaries and collaborate across sectors to understand how we can recreate these blue zone outcomes in other areas.

We were due to attend their event at Nottingham Trent University on September 20th, however it was unfortunately cancelled due to a traffic incident in the area.

The consortium is an incredible initiative, and if you'd like to learn more about it you can visit their website below.

Industry News:

The British Industrial Design Association (BIDA) hands over its interests to the Design Business Association (DBA)

This month, the BIDA sent out an email to members and supporters to thank them for their support and to announce that they're handing their interests over to the DBA.

Smallfry Industrial Design has been a listed industrial design team with the BIDA since 2017, and Steve May-Russell , Smallfry's CEO was the national chairman from 2016-2019.

The British Industrial Design Association was a non-profit membership organisation run by volunteers, which ultimately has struggled facing the "increasing challenge to be on top of representing the emerging diversification and specialisations developing from the traditional Industrial Design model".

The DBA will now be taking on a new approach to represent the professional needs and intricacies of the industrial design sector.

Updates from the Smallfry Studio:

The Team Take on Tennis

This month, the Smallfry team visited Warwick Tennis Club for some team bonding, led by Ella Harvey , one of Smallfry's brilliant industrial designers.

We know that in order for our designers to remain as highly dedicated to their work as they are and to achieve the best outcomes for our clients, they need a break and chance to bond away from the office.

Participating in some healthy competition was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our team and have some fun together.

A New Addition to Smallfry

This month we welcomed Cyrus Darabi back to Smallfry, following his graduation from Loughborough University . Cyrus studied Product Design & Technology and has previously worked at Smallfry during his placement year in 2022-23.

We're excited to have him back as we continue a successful year at the Smallfry studio.
