What a journey it's been for our team at The Folger Shakespeare Library. After successfully moving an 80-year-old magnolia tree, construction began at the end of 2020 on this complex renovation. Reopened in the summer of 2024, the project involved restoring the original 97,000-square-foot facility, built in 1932. The renovation added an additional 12,000 square feet, including a new wing named the Adams Pavilion. This new section features two exhibit halls, two plazas and gardens, improved accessible entrances, and a café called Quill & Crumb located in the historic Great Hall. 🚧Progress update! Construction is moving along at Ensemble / Mosaic's and AVE by Korman Communities AVE Navy Yard mixed-use, multi-family development. Gilbane's project team has developed multiple strategies to keep the project on schedule and on budget, including erecting the buildings in column tower sections to create watertight and conditioned sections so finishing trades can begin work prior to the erection of the full structure. We're excited to share that Phase 1 of the Blueprint Schools Program was honored with a National Award of Merit for Educational Facilities by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Each year, DBIA recognizes projects that illustrate the critical role design-build played in shaping the success of the project. Delivered via a 30-year, first-of-its-kind innovative public-private partnership model, the team leveraged design-build best practices to deliver six schools for Prince George's County Public Schools. The project team achieved economies of scale by developing three prototype school designs with common elements and an eye towards minimized maintenance and lifecycle interventions.
