About us
We facilitate life-affirming values by seeking to teach theologies that are constructive, critical, relevant, contextual and engaging. By studying at UP’s Faculty of Theology and Religion, you will undertake quality, collaborative, inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary research. We will create a space for differing epistemologies, inter-religious dialogue and new technologies so you can engage in the critical reading of texts from religious, historical and life experiences. Our main mission is to nurture transformative leaders that serve the academia, faith-communities and society as a whole by promoting justice, peace, integrity and ultimately reconciling diversity in order to let human life flourish in Africa.

It is with great excitement and pride that we announce Prof Tanya van Wyk has been appointed as the new HOD for our Department of Systematic and Historical Theology. The first woman to take on this role, and one of the youngest departmental heads in the history of our Faculty, Prof van Wyk will now get to use her years of academic experience, vast theological training and natural leadership talent to pioneer fresh prospects for our students in these important fields of inquiry. #womeninleadership #newhopeforthefuture

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of our beloved colleague and friend, Prof Andries van Aarde, passing away in recent days. His impact on the practice of publishing and in the field of Theology is immeasurable, as was the value we placed in his professional companionship. A great light has gone out amongst us! #HTS #LordHaveMercy

Wait! Exams may be over, but are you really done for the semester? We suggest that you don’t leave just as yet. Rather wait until you are sure you have no supplementary exams. Sups will be taking place from the 2nd to the 7th of December. You will be notified via UP email if you need to write one. Better safe than sorry, right? #universityofpretoria #examseason
