It was buzzing at the Academy Shepparton centre as members of the Northern Eastern Victorian Regional (NEVR) School Improvement Workforce came together to focus on the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0 reforms, and the Department of Education's new literacy position. The NEVR is a great way of working with our regional schools and learning service providers to ensure learners have access to the same opportunities as other students. We look forward to having them back at the centre next year to collaborate and share ideas. With technologies and AI of interest in Victorian schools, technology teacher and TEP graduate Emma Perrett from Caulfield Grammar School reflects on her experience from the Teaching Excellence Program. 'The connections I’ve made and the insights I’ve gained have truly shaped my understanding of the future of education, especially in the context of technologies and AI' 'I can’t help but feel grateful for the incredible professional learning journey this year has provided.' As a skilled teacher, please consider applying for the TEP and share this exciting opportunity with others ➡️ go.vic.gov.au/4f9RhFx #AcademyVic #TEP #ProfessionalLearning #Education
💭As I take a moment to reflect on the final Technologies Discipline Day at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership, I can’t help but feel grateful for the incredible professional learning journey this year has provided. The connections I’ve made and the insights I’ve gained have truly shaped my understanding of the future of education, especially in the context of technology and AI. 💡The final Discipline Day was all about looking toward the future of education and it didn’t disappoint! Workshops run by fellow TEP teachers delved into the intersection of Arts and Technologies with a forward-thinking focus. 🌟My highlight was definitely the ‘You’re the Voice’ workshop run by Thomson Wood and Michael Kollaras, as we created and composed a piece of music that speculated on the future of learning using the power of AI (ChatGPT, Udio and Suno). Common themes included belonging, identity and resilience. Together, we imagined a future where all voices are heard, accepted and valued. 👏🏻A special shout-out to The Little Projector Company, who curated all the work and presented it in such an innovative and thought-provoking way. I was also introduced to the wonder of cymatics - truly fascinating to see the science of sound brought to life in such a visually captivating way! 🙌🏻Thank you to all the TEP teachers who presented, the amazing Technologies Master teachers Anam Javed, Mamoun and Sam, and the entire team at the Victorian Academy, for designing and facilitating such meaningful sessions and fostering a collaborative environment. This journey has been nothing short of transformative and I’m eager to carry these insights forward into my teaching practice. And if you have read as far as this point and feel inspired to apply for TEP 2025, then hurry up and don’t miss out, because I promise you, you won’t regret it. If only we were allowed to join for a second year! 🙏🏻

For teachers looking to enhance their capability and skills, the Teaching Excellence Program (TEP) is a great way to invest in your professional learning to achieve the best outcomes for your students. Michael Kollaras, a TEP24 teacher, created and shared a reflective video on his time in the program, and how it has been a transformative experience. 'Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue sharing my journey. Ultimately, this year has been about recognising my strengths, embracing my identity as an educator, and finding my place to make a real difference.' Read more of Michael's reflections in his post below, and see the video he created as part of the 'Teacher Portrait' task in the TEP. ⭐ A Reflection on My Year of Teaching ⭐ As one of our final tasks for the Teaching Excellence Program, we were assigned to create a "teacher portrait" to encapsulate how we perceive ourselves, reflecting on our personal qualities, passions, beliefs, and values. I saw this as an opportunity to reflect not only on my growth as an educator but also on a year filled with both personal and professional development. This year has been life-changing for me, with invaluable friendships and experiences that I now hold dearly. Here’s my reflection on the past year in teaching: This past year has been one of the most transformative in my journey as an educator. When I first joined the Teaching Excellence Program at the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership, I felt a strong sense of imposter syndrome. Surrounded by incredible educators with such confidence and expertise, I wondered if I truly belonged. However, as the year progressed, I found myself contributing to discussions and sharing insights on the technologies curriculum. My confidence grew, reshaping my teaching practice and empowering me to embrace my role fully. Beyond this personal growth, the connections I made were invaluable. I found a supportive community of peers who share my commitment to education and understand the challenges and joys of teaching. These connections have become a cherished part of my journey, offering both professional insights and genuine friendship. Together, we’re building a vision of education grounded in a shared passion for learning. One of my most rewarding experiences this year was leading a workshop alongside Thomson Wood, on whether AI supports or hinders the creative process. The positive response affirmed my ability to lead and inspire others—a reminder of my potential and skills as an educator. Reflecting on this journey, my teaching philosophy has truly solidified. I’m committed to viewing students as whole individuals, not just learners, aiming to create a safe, inclusive classroom where they feel valued and empowered to explore their strengths. I believe in technology’s role in education, not just as a tool but as a means to promote connection, accessibility, and engagement. Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue sharing my journey. Ultimately, this year has been about recognising my strengths, embracing my identity as an educator, and finding my place to make a real difference.
