🔊 It's the final sitting week for the Federal Parliament, and AHC is delighted to see the Senate pass Future Made in Australia legislation this evening including bills to establish Australia's Guarantee of Origin (GO) certification scheme for clean and green hydrogen.   The GO scheme has been in the making for five years. 📰 Certscape amongst awardees of $13.6 million in grant funding from the Australian and UK governments as six innovative projects announced! On 25 October, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom officially announced our projects under the Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnership Program. Under this program, the two Governments will support six cutting-edge projects focused on industrial decarbonisation. Hadean Energy will deploy their state-of-the-art tubular Solid Oxide Electrolysis (SOE) technology over both locations where the Certscape platform will provide automated operational certification across international jurisdictions. In partnership with EDF (UK), Cranfield University, MCG UK , and Minviro, we’ll utilise these projects to drive key outcomes to accelerate #decarbonisation across the #energy, #transport, #shipping, #aviation, and #mining sectors. Securing federal grant funding in this highly competitive program is a substantial endorsement by the Australian & UK governments, and industry partners of the need to automate the process of certifying the emissions intensity and sustainability credentials of renewable gases, fuels and materials. 🚨Two massive updates in the Australian certification landscape🚨 Last week, The Australian Government introduced the Future Made in Australia (Guarantee of Origin) Bill to Parliament. Along with its introduction, there was enhanced clarity regarding the scheme that will be responsible for verifying the green credentials and, therefore, the eligibility of renewable gases, fuels, and materials for over $10 billion in government grants and tax subsidies. Notably, the scheme enhanced its roadmap of products from renewable hydrogen to include: - Sustainable aviation fuel - Green metals like steel and aluminium  - Biomethane and biogas Coinciding with the introduction of the Guarantee of Origin Bill, the refreshed National Hydrogen Strategy 2024 was released and announced at the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition by Minister Chris Bowen. The strategy supersedes the 2019 iteration and outlines four key objectives to position Australia as a major global player in the renewable hydrogen market. Those objectives, supported by 34 actions are: 🏗️ Supply: the hydrogen industry supplies hydrogen that is globally cost competitive 💵 Demand and decarbonisation: activating the most prospective domestic demand sectors for hydrogen-based decarbonisation 🏡 Community benefit: communities are aware of and can realise the benefits of hydrogen 🤝 Trade, investment and partnerships: establish trade at scale and leverage purposeful partnerships. The Future Made in Australia Bill was introduced by the Federal Government yesterday. The government is supercharging Australian renewable hydrogen with: 🔹$6.7 billion over the decade for a new production tax incentive of $2 per kilogram starting from 2027-28; and 🔹$2 billion for a new round of the successful Hydrogen Headstart program to give long-term certainty for the large-scale renewable hydrogen industry, critical for future green iron and steel opportunities. On top of this, as a part of the 2023-24 budget, $38.2 million was provided for the creation of a Guarantee of Origin scheme to certify renewable energy and track and verify emissions from clean energy products. This is in addition to the $2.2 million from the year before. The future is certainly looking bright for certified renewable hydrogen production in Australia! 

It was great to head down to Perth for the Australian Hydrogen Council quarterly meeting. There was a great turnout of stakeholders across the hydrogen landscape. That’s a wrap on iX Summit 2024 for the Certscape team! 🌏 The summit produced amazing opportunities for action from: 🛩️ Breakfast roundtables going deep on #SustainableAviationFuel 💼 Working groups building relationships between strangers with complementary skills to solve problems today 👋 An exhibition floor where we were positioned right at the front door, talking to people across #renewable fuels & gases, transport #decarbonisation and the #EnergyTransition. A massive thanks again to EnergyLab, Samantha J. Wood and all of my incredible booth mates in #climatetech Adiona, Brownee - Sustainability in the baking, Mantaray, Powerblocks AU and Vaulta. On top of all that, some standout sessions for me were: 📈 The most data-driven factual account of our current projected milestones for planetary heating from Dr Johan Rockström 🚌 The Transport & Infrastructure Working Group that concentrated on urgent actions for a clean and notably just transition. Highlights included Helena Lang's insights during a panel discussion about leading the way with SAF projects in Australia and discussions on the landscape generally with SAF expert Heidi Hauf Overall there was an incredible line-up of speakers and great conversations all round.
