  • 💡SSRIA is proud to share with you our new Case Studies for SSRIA funded projects! At our core we are committed to sharing innovative information amongst our industry peers, so stay tuned to our LinkedIn over the upcoming weeks to see more of our incredible projects highlighted. Our eleventh Green Building Technology Network project was completed with BM HOMES LTD. This project is a new mixed-use commercial building that houses a restaurant on the main floor and residential units on the upper floors. The building adopted a micro-combined heat and power (mCHP) technology and high-performance building envelope that aims to use 100% clean electricity generated on-site thereby reducing more than 40% of GHG emissions from the building operation. This project is the first mCHP application in a mixed-use commercial building in Alberta. The success of the project showcases the economic and sustainability value of mCHP technology, and the tool and process developed at the project facilitates future mCHP applications in small commercial buildings. • 💡SSRIA is proud to share with you our new Case Studies for SSRIA funded projects! At our core we are committed to sharing innovative information amongst our industry peers, so stay tuned to our LinkedIn over the upcoming weeks to see more of our incredible projects highlighted. Our tenth Green Building Technology Network project was completed with 4 Elements Integrated Design LTD. Canada’s residential building industry is a major contributor to our national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Older homes offer huge potential for significant GHG reductions in Alberta and across the country by extending the life of a home and improving energy efficiency, while requiring fewer new materials and creating less waste than re-building. However, underinvestment in a renovation or focusing on the wrong issues can result in a project losing out on long term cost and energy savings as well as reduced carbon savings. This project, across three different homes, proves the viability of Deep Energy Retrofits with Electrification, setting these homes up for full zero carbon with the addition of solar panels. Publicly available case studies supported by open data help pave the path for future projects by reducing uncertainty and risk. 💡SSRIA is proud to share with you our new Case Studies for SSRIA funded projects! At our core we are committed to sharing innovative information amongst our industry peers, so stay tuned to our LinkedIn over the upcoming weeks to see more of our incredible projects highlighted. Our seventh Green Building Technology Network project was completed with Homes By Sorensen. Project Leo, located in the community of Balmoral in Calgary, received partial funding for the incremental costs associated with building and monitoring an affordable, replicable, multi-generational infill building. The project was of particular interest because it has the potential to serve as a model for community-dense, low-energy housing designed to Passive House standards, with Net-Zero emissions. The goal was to show the affordability and sustainability of homes built with integrated design techniques, and with on-site energy generation. Special design features included the maximization of shared walls and mechanical equipment, thereby reducing footprint and cost; air-source heat pumps; upgraded ventilation and duct systems; and an integrated home energy monitoring system.
