Embarking on New Adventures in the Antarctic Season 2024/25! 🚢❄️ Last night, the iconic research vessel #Polarstern departed its home port of Bremerhaven following its routine annual maintenance, setting course for the Antarctic Season 2024/25. As part of the preparations, we installed a new -4H-#FerryBox system on board – the second system of its kind to be deployed on the Polarstern. Our system will play a vital role in supporting the upcoming scientific missions and delivering valuable data for research. Before departure, the laboratory technicians of the Polarstern received a briefing on the new system from our colleagues Uwe Posner and Sven Drechsler. We are excited to see the first results and wish the Polarstern a successful journey. Interested in following the Polarstern live on its journey? ⛴️ 📡 With the Polarstern app https://lnkd.in/e2vnyNzU, you can track the ship in real time and explore fascinating blog posts about its missions and research stations. Today, we had the pleasure of attending the christening ceremony of the new research vessel #Coriolis. Karin Prien, Minister for Education, Science, Research, and Culture, officially named the ship during the event. 🚢 We are proud to be a partner in this project. With our -4H-#FerryBox and a sea water distribution system, we contribute to the state-of-the-art equipment on board. The Coriolis is going to be a key tool for gathering valuable data on ecosystems and climate change, which is great for science and the environment. Learn more about the Coriolis and its mission in the following post: https://lnkd.in/eHm_uEpD #ResearchVessel #Innovation #4HFerryBox #MarineTechnologies Michael Boer Maik Grunwald Hitzler Werft GmbH

We’re pleased to share that the 4H-JENA Engineering FerryBox system has been featured in the latest ECO Magazine Buyer’s Guide. The FerryBox is an advanced, low-maintenance solution for long-term monitoring of water parameters in a variety of environments – from coastal waters to the open ocean. With its ability to integrate multiple sensors and transmit data remotely in real-time, the FerryBox provides valuable insights for researchers, environmental agencies, and maritime operators. We have FerryBoxes deployed all over the world and we are pleased to say that the first installation in the USA took place earlier in the summer. 🌊 🏆 Fantastic results for -4H-JENA engineering GmbH at the recent Ocean Re-CREATION Challenge! For five days, interdisciplinary teams from science and industry worked together to develop innovative solutions for the current challenges in coastal and marine protection. The focus was on team building, mentoring, and exciting new insights. The teams developed prototypes and business models, which were presented and awarded on Pitch Day. Our colleagues Rengin Yağmur Akbıyık and Arshana were actively involved in these exciting challenges: ▶ Arshana’s Challenge: Ocean Data B – Ocean Data from Plankton Camera. In collaboration with openUC2, a camera system was developed to improve global plankton and POM data collection on ships. ▶ Rengin’s Challenge: Ocean Data A – Ocean Data from Sailing Boxes. Together with GEOMAR Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel, Alfred-Wegener-Institut, Helmholtz-Zentrum für Polar- und Meeresforschung and Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, an innovative concept using sensor-equipped sailing boats was created to gather critical oceanographic data for climate research and ocean protection. Both challenges achieved 1st and 2nd place – and we are incredibly proud to have been part of this amazing journey! The insights into the latest trends and challenges in coastal and marine protection were truly inspiring. We are excited to continue this journey together with TMT | Transferzentrum f. Maritime Technologien Schleswig-Holstein! -4H-JENA engineering GmbH Nadja Kinski Julia P. #OceanData #Innovation #SailingBoxes #ClimateResearch #CoastalProtection #Networking
