From Dubai Arbitration Week to the Ninth Edition of the Sharm El Sheikh Conference on "The Role of State Courts in International Arbitration" organized by The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), YFLG has been deeply engaged in discussions shaping the future of dispute resolution. Arbitration’s growing prominence in the legal sector reflects its ability to address the complexities of cross-border transactions, offering an effective, flexible, and globally recognized mechanism for resolving disputes. A central theme at the Sharm El Sheikh conference was the evolving role of state courts in supporting arbitration processes, enforcing arbitral awards and striking a balance between intervention and independence. Co-organized by the UNCITRAL secretariat, The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), ICCA International Council for Commercial Arbitration, The International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), and the Arab Union for International Arbitration (AUIA), the Sharm El Sheikh IX Conference took place on 4 and 5 December 2024, featuring enlightening and fruitful discussions on international arbitration. Ms. Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of UNCITRAL, delivered opening remarks at the inaugural session, featuring recent key legislative achievements by UNCITRAL. 𝐂𝐑𝐂𝐈𝐂𝐀 𝐚𝐭 the 5th World Conference on International Arbitration in Doha Qatar International Center for Conciliation and Arbitration   On Tuesday, 19 November 2024, the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA) participated in the 5th World Conference on International Arbitration, held under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Focused on the theme “Arbitration in the MENA Region – Present and Future,” the event took place on 19- 20 November 2024 at the prestigious Waldorf Astoria Lusail Hotel in Doha, Qatar. Representing CRCICA, Dr. Ismail Selim, the Centre’s Director and President of The International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI), joined a distinguished panel alongside esteemed arbitration experts, including Prof. Dr. Nayla Comair-Obeid (Lebanese University, ICCA International Council for Commercial Arbitration), Ms. Catherine Dixon (Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), Ms. Judith Knepper (UNCITRAL: United Nations Commission on International Trade Law), and Dr. Hamed Merah (SCCA Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration). Moderated by Mr. Sultan Al-Abdullah, Managing Partner of Sultan Al-Abdulla & Partners, the session spanned 90 minutes and featured impactful presentations and dynamic discussions on the evolving arbitration landscape in the MENA region. In his presentation, Dr. Selim highlighted CRCICA’s rich legacy and pioneering role in shaping arbitration practices in the region. He introduced the Centre’s newly launched 2024 Arbitration Rules, which incorporate transformative advancements such as Provisions for expedited proceedings and emergency arbitrators, as well as Integration of technology, enabling online filings and hybrid hearings. Dr. Selim also emphasized CRCICA’s growing diversity in caseloads, its reputation for delivering cost-effective, high-quality services, and its steadfast commitment to aligning with global arbitration standards. He underlined the Centre’s neutrality and its trusted handling of complex disputes, including those involving public entities and international organizations, supported by endorsements from leading arbitration authorities. His insightful contribution reaffirmed CRCICA’s pivotal role as a trailblazer in arbitration practices, both regionally and globally, further solidifying its reputation as a leading institution in the MENA arbitration landscape.
