Wildfires are often overlooked as a major driver of pollution and climate change. In 2023, wildfires in Canada alone released over 3 billion tons of CO2—almost as much as the United States’ total emissions for the same year. But the impact goes beyond the atmosphere. Wildfire smoke creates toxic air conditions that reach cities and urban areas far from the flames. A study from The Lancet reported that wildfire-sourced particulate matter caused 1.53 million deaths between 2001 and 2019. Smoke from these fires can travel hundreds or even thousands of miles, putting even fire-free communities at risk. Our Wildfire Solution is designed to make a difference. By detecting and predicting fires early, we help keep small flames from turning into uncontrollable infernos. Xpyro Ltd has recently started a collaboration with CIHEAM Chania. The first tests of Prefirex have already carried in the aerodynamic tunnel simulator of forest fires out. Mr. Harri Keskinen, Xpyro CEO, and I had the chance to visit CIHEAM Chania premises in Crete and meet Mr. George Kazakis who is in charge of these tests. It was such a nice opportunity to see the facilities where the tests are taking place, and attend part of the tests.
