Pacific Basin is proud to announce that we have contracted to build four 64,000 dwt Ultramax low-emission vessels (“LEVs”) of the newest and most fuel-efficient design and with dual-fuel engines that operate on green methanol as well as sustainable biodiesel and conventional fuel oil. The vessels will be built by Nihon Shipyard Co. in Japan with delivery between 2028 and 2029. This deal marks the beginning of a third phase of collaboration with Japanese partners Nihon Shipyard Co. and Mitsui & Co. following a detailed joint-study into the suitability of alternative green fuels for our ship types, and the subsequent development of an efficient dual-fuel methanol Ultramax ship design. The deal also represents a major milestone in our long-term plan to transition to net zero emissions by 2050 and comply with increasing decarbonisation regulations along the way. We have also entered into an MOU with Mitsui & Co. that will give us access to volumes of green methanol to enable our fleet to comply with coming FuelEU Maritime rules and expected IMO rules that will mandate the gradually increasing use of sustainable fuels. In our dedication to improving the welfare and overall quality of life for our seafarers, we previously announced the rollout of Starlink's high-speed internet service across our owned fleet. We are thrilled to share that, through one of our Starlink service providers Navarino, we have become part of the Starlink Tree hub sustainability initiative. This initiative plans to plant 50 trees for each Starlink unit purchased, allowing us to support the environment while enhancing the wellbeing of our invaluable crew members. The trees will be planted in a dedicated reservation in Honduras as part of a 96,500-hectare landscape restoration initiative. This project aims to protect water resources, prevent forest fires, restore landscape connectivity, and strengthen climate resilience. Since joining the initiative, we have already planted 150 trees and counting! #PacificBasin #WithYouForTheLongHaul #EnvironmentalResponsibility #Starlink #SustainabilityInShipping #ResponsibilityToOurPeople
