AbstractAbstract
[en] In this study, the possible effect of the neutron-proton pairing interaction in the heavy nuclei has been investigated in the framework of the BCS model by making a simple approximation. This effect has been searched realistically by calculating the moments of inertia of deformed even-even nuclei. Calculations show that the moments of inertia of rare earth nuclei changed dramatically and approached the experimental values.

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this work, the unitarity of the Cabibbo Kobayashi Maskawa (CKM) mixing matrix has been investigated by studying on the superallowed Fermi Beta decays. The numerical value of the Vud element of the CKM mixing matrix has been calculated following the standard procedure. Using a different method from those of the previous studies, the effect of the isospin breaking due to the Coulomb forces have been evaluated more accurately. Here, the shell model has been modified by Pyatov's restoration because of the isospin breaking and the transition matrix elements have been found by means of the Random Phase Approximation (RPA).

[en] Four radon monitoring stations were built on the Sivrice Fault Zone which is a part of the East Anatolian Fault System that one of the very important two fault systems which tends to produce earthquake in Turkey. Radon exhalation rate were analyzed in the soil and water samples which collected around the stations. Radon exhalation rate in the soil and water samples were determined by using CR-39 that it is plastic detector.

[en] Calcite which is a form of crystalline of the calcium carbonate composes parent material of chalk stone (limestone) and marble. Calcite which presents in various colors also in our country consists of yellow, blue, transparent and green colors. In this study, green calcite mineral which is taken from the region of Ayvalik, was examined of its thermoluminescence (TL) and optical absorption features in different doses. It has been obtained a large TL peak in 179 degree C and absorption peak in 550 mm.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Studies has been concentrated on energy issues for being conscious due to increasing world population, rapidly becoming effective environmental problems, and continuously increasing demand of developing countries like China and India. Nuclear energy is a candidate as an alternative source especially for countries with high energy demand. Safety has always been the primary concern for almost the last fifty years during the commercial utilization of nuclear energy and developed fuel and materials technologies have played key roles in this respect. This study deals with operational problems related with fuel and materials experienced in commercial reactor during recent years and new technological solutions applicable to new generation reactors as well as existing ones.

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this work, two-group macroscopic cross sections are generated for two-region slab geometry benchmark problem using Monte Carlo code MCNP5 and lattice-cell code WIMSD5. To determine diffusion coefficients, optimization technique is used by minimizing the difference between Monte Carlo and Diffusion Theory results. Hence, the algorithm used in this study allows one to obtain the diffusion solution having same accuracy as the Monte Carlo results. The power of the technique is demonstrated using the two-region slab geometry benchmark problem. The diffusion coefficients and group parameters generated using the Monte Carlo simulation results are compared with WIMSD5 results.

AbstractAbstract
[en] The angular distributions of electrons incident normally to medium of definite thickness are obtained using Monte Carlo method. The elastic and inelastic collisions and the Bremsstrahlung event were simulated in details. The Gaussian distribution function was proposed for the angular distribution of electrons. The dependence of results on the electron initial energy, thickness and atomic number of medium was discussed. In thicker medium, where diffusion prevails, the angular distribution is closer to the Cos2θ form than to the Cosθ from.

AbstractAbstract
[en] In this study polyacrylonitrile fiber (PANF) was hydrolyzed both with sodium and potassium hydroxide solutions using alkali hydrolysing method and hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile fibers (HPANF) were obtained. These two types of hydrolyzed fibers were compared taking into consideration strontium adsorption capacities and it was decided that the hydrolysis with KOH solution is more convenient. The hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile fiber was characterized by DTA/TGA, FTIR and SEM analysis. The adsorption behaviors of HPANF towards Sr ions was investigated by batch technique, the parameters affect the strontium adsorption such as the initial pH of the solution, Sr concentration, temperature, shaking time, adsorbent dose (V/m ratio) were determined. The adaptation of the obtained adsorption equilibrium data to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were investigated and some of the thermodynamic values of the system (ΔGo, ΔHo, ΔSo) were calculated.

AbstractAbstract
[en] Gamma ray dose buildup factors in water for isotropic point, plane mono directional and infinite/finite line sources were calculated using the MCNP code. The buildup factors are determined for gamma ray energies of 1, 2, 3 and 4 Mev and for shield thicknesses of 1, 2, 4 and 7 mean free paths. The calculated buildup factors were then fitted in the Taylor and Berger forms. For the line sources a buildup factor table was also constructed using the Sievert function and the constants in Taylor form derived in this study to compare with the Monte Carlo results. All buildup factors were compared with the tabulated data given in literature. In order to reduce the statistical errors on buildup factors, 'forced collision' option was used in the MCNP calculations.
