Chi siamo
The Sovereign Military Order of Malta is one of the oldest institutions of Western and Christian civilization. Present in Palestine in around 1050, it is a lay religious Order, traditionally of military, chivalrous, noble nature. The Order remains true to its inspiring principles, summarised in the motto “Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum”, nurturing, witnessing and protecting the faith and serving the poor and the sick representing the Lord, which become reality through the voluntary work carried out by Dames and Knights in humanitarian assistance and medical and social activities. Today the Order carries out these activities in over 120 countries. The Diplomatic Mission in Geneva develops relations with international and intergovernmental humanitarian organizations to inform them about the activities of the Order of Malta and to define possible fields of cooperation. Our work focuses on: Refugees - UNHCR, Health - WHO, Relief - OCHA, Human rights - UNHCHR and HRC, Migration - IOM, Social matters - ECOSOC. On Monday, I participated and intervened in the United Nations OCHA briefing on the humanitarian situation in #Lebanon 🇱🇧🇺🇳 The briefing was chaired by Mr Ramesh Rajasingham, with the participation of H.E. Ambassador Salim Baddoura, PR of Lebanon to the UN in Geneva, and Mr Imran Riza, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator. They provided an overview of the current crisis and need for funding of the Flash Appeal. The Sovereign #OrderofMalta, through the work of Order Of Malta Lebanon, continues its day-to-day operations, enhancing its response according to the assessment of relief needs arising daily, focusing on the needs of IDPs with shelter, basic assistance, healthcare, food security and WASH, as well as psychological support. The Sovereign Order of Malta calls for an immediate ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian access, the respect of IHL, the mandate of the UNIFIL, the full implementation of UNSC resolution 1701. Finally, I reiterated our closeness to the Lebanese people in this extremely difficult time and our unwavering commitment to helping those in need. On a personal note, I wish to express my deep gratitude and admiration for the impressive and selfless work done by our colleagues in Lebanon. And personally thank Ms Oumayma Farah for her assistance in preparing this briefing.
