There is a growing and well-established evidence base illustrating the various ways violence against children and violence against women intersect. These areas of overlap include shared and compounding consequences for children’s and women’s well-being and health. As we strive for every child to grow up free from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation and harmful practices, this body of evidence makes it clear that these intersections must be considered. UNICEF’s current Child Protection Strategy underscores the need for an increase in coordinated approaches to prevent and respond to violence against children and violence against women. Our new series of evidence-to-action briefs seek to support organizations that care for children to integrate work on these intersections. We encourage you to explore them. https://lnkd.in/ezbPEbr6

This week we celebrated #WorldChildrensDay, the biggest day of the year for UNICEF and all of us who champion the rights and the future of children and young people all across the world. The day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child 35 years ago. This year, we at UNICEF Innocenti are marking the occasion with the release of the State of the World’s Children, our flagship report. This year’s edition looks at the future of childhood: looking ahead to understand the scope of the challenges children will be facing over the next 25 years and beyond. So, how will the world look for children in the 2050s? In many ways, it will be profoundly different: Children will be living in societies that are older than today’s. And more of them will live in Africa, more will live in cities and more of them will be impacted by the climate crises. And, without action, we will continue to see a lack of investment in early childhood. Too many children, particularly girls, will still not be learning. And proven solutions, like child benefits, will still fail to reach many families. Many of them will also continue to lack access to digital tools and even access to the internet. The State of the World’s Children is not a dry accounting of the future. This report is a call to action. We make several recommendations to governments, businesses and others on how to chart the course today for a better tomorrow, including to invest in education, jobs, social protection, health, infrastructure and innovative solutions; to strengthen legislation to protect children’s rights, including for new types of crimes; and to anticipate how to tackle future challenges with a focus on equity. A sustainable shared future demands shared efforts. We can only succeed if we work together, to ensure our children inherit a livable planet with equal opportunities for every child. https://lnkd.in/dYWb_QFF

This week, we celebrate #WorldChildrensDay and we asked children to write you a letter. To reflect on their rights, and to share their priorities and dreams for the future. Across countries, across languages, children are calling out for peace, for safe and healthy environments, for love and care. We cannot let them down.
