Last week, we had the honor of hosting the participants of the Circular Factory Program, an initiative by BlueCity (010) and Tekkoo. BlueCity serves as a hub for circular innovation, empowering entrepreneurs to develop sustainable solutions to global challenges, while Tekkoo specializes in guiding startups and scale-ups in the circular economy to achieve impactful growth. Our co-founder, Sytze van Stempvoort, highlighted key lessons from our journey of transforming orange peels into valuable ingredients, highlighting the importance of strategic partnerships and innovative processes. Key takeaways from the session included: 🍊 𝗖𝗼-𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀: Collaborating with feedstock suppliers can streamline logistics and simplify permitting processes. 🍊 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Early integration of automation in process design is crucial to prevent bottlenecks during scaling. 🍊 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: Building relationships with local governments early on can facilitate smoother permitting and operational support. To close the day, Lindy Hensen, our board member, offered thought-provoking advice on scaling strategically: "Lately, investors always ask if ‘CAPEX light’ is a possibility. Think critically about what to do in-house and what can be outsourced. Do you really need your own factory in the beginning?” We’re proud to contribute to the growth of the circular and upcycle economy by inspiring and supporting other entrepreneurs in their scaling journey. Bij PeelPioneers veranderen we de manier waarop de wereld naar sinaasappelschillen kijkt. Elke dag worden enorme hoeveelheden sinaasappelschillen weggegooid als afval. De meeste mensen zien dit als een probleem, maar wij zien een wereld vol mogelijkheden. Ons innovatieve proces zorgt ervoor dat 100% van de schil wordt geüpcycled, wat bijdraagt aan een circulaire economie en de milieu-impact vermindert. In samenwerking met supermarkten, restaurants en andere bedrijven verzamelen we dagelijks sinaasappelschillen en verwerken we deze tot hoogwaardige ingrediënten zoals Finix Citrus Fiber, Five Fold Oil en Cold Pressed Oil. Belangrijke kenmerken - Circulaire economie: Voorop lopen in het upcyclen van sinaasappelschillen tot waardevolle ingrediënten. - Innovatieve producten: Natuurlijke, hoogwaardige ingrediënten voor diverse toepassingen. - Duurzaamheid: Toegewijd aan het verminderen van afval en het bevorderen van een groenere toekomst. - Certificeringen: Trots FSSC22000 en GMP+ gecertificeerd, wat superieure kwaliteit en veiligheid garandeert. - Industrie toepassingen: Bediening van de voedings-, drank-, cosmetica- en schoonmaakindustrie. On October 16th, PeelPioneers had the pleasure of hosting a delegation of Ghanaian entrepreneurs from the tropical fruit industry. This visit, organized by CBI and supported by the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken was an inspiring exchange of ideas on sustainable innovation in food production and circular economies. During the visit, Sytze van Stempvoort shared insights into how we transform orange peels into valuable food ingredients, focusing on our upcycling approach and tackling specific challenges in orange peel valorization. The Ghanaian delegation shared their experiences, highlighting how tropical fruit waste can be repurposed similarly. The Centre for the Promotion of Imports (CBI) plays a critical role in supporting SMEs from developing countries, helping them strengthen their export strategies to meet European standards. This visit underscored the importance of international collaboration in creating sustainable solutions for the global food industry.
