2 ELECTRIC FERRIES HAVE BEEN SIGNED We are kickstarting the autumn by announcing that we have signed a comprehensive design and engineering contract for two electric ferries to be built at Özata Shipyard in Turkey. The ferries are 76.85 meters long and will have the capacity to carry 202 passengers and 60 vehicles. The battery capacity is 1960 kWh. We have designed and developed these emission-free ferries in close collaboration with Torghatten Nord, and they will operate on the Festvåg – Misten route, connecting the road between Bodø and Kjerringøy. The ferries contribute to yet another emission-free and environmentally friendly fjord crossing, perfectly aligned with Torghatten Nord’s forward-thinking focus on green fleet renewal. We are very grateful that Torghatten Nord once again shows trust in us and our expertise in green and future-oriented low-energy design. Özata Shipyard has taken the opportunity today to announce the contract signing at the world’s leading maritime trade fair, SMM in Hamburg, with over 2,000 exhibitors and around 40,000 visitors from all over the world. We congratulate all involved parties and look forward to good cooperation with Torghatten Nord and Özata Shipyard throughout the construction period. #TorghattenNord #ÖzataShipyard

CONSTRUCTION OF THE HYDROGEN FERRIES HAS BEGUN We are pleased to announce that the first steel for the world's largest hydrogen ferries was cut yesterday at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey. As is well known, Myklebust Verft will build the two ferries that we have developed together with Torghatten Nord, but first, the steel and hull will be produced at Cemre Shipyard. The ferries, which will operate in the challenging sea areas of the Outer Vestfjord, have been developed with a multi-hybrid propulsion system and will refuel with green hydrogen in Bodø. Annually, CO2 emissions on this weather-exposed Lofoten route will be reduced by 26,500 tons. We look forward to the work ahead together with our project partners: Torghatten Nord AS Myklebust Verft SEAM GreenH AS https://lnkd.in/dHZabykw

NEW CONTRACT IN DENMARK The Norwegian Ship Design Company has signed a contract with the Danish shipyard Hvide Sande. The ferry, developed for and in collaboration with Torghatten Nord, is an electric ferry that will have a battery installation of a full 4000kWh on board. The ferry, which will have a capacity of 30 cars and 149 passengers, has been given the design name NSD 30CFc. Great emphasis has been placed on safety and comfort for passengers and crew in the design of the ferry, which will be able to operate in rough weather conditions. The ferry will operate on the Bellvik-Vengsøy and Musvær-Mjølvik-Risøy routes in the open sea northwest of Kvaløy, outside Tromsø. We look forward to good cooperation with Hvide Sande Shipyard and Torghatten Nord on this project. #Torghatten #TorghattenNord #HvideSandeShipyard

NEW EL. FERRY FROM NORWEGIAN SHIP DESIGN We are proud to announce that a contract has been signed for the construction of another electric ferry that will operate in the beautiful Vestfjord in Lofoten. In close collaboration with Torghatten Nord AS, we have developed the ferry with the design mark NSD 50CFb. The ferry is 73 meters long and will accommodate 50 vehicles and 199 passengers. The ferry will daily provide a lifeline service between the town of Svolvær and the small island of Skrova in Lofoten. During the summer the ferry will also cross the mighty Vestfjord and travel to Skutvik on the mainland. This 2-hour crossing over the exposed Vestfjord is a major tourist attraction, and by emphasizing good customer experiences in the design, the new ferry will also provide a pleasant travel experience for passengers. Due to the harsh weather conditions north of the Arctic Circle, the ferry is designed with a fully enclosed car deck. In the design, we have also focused on low energy consumption, and despite it not being a requirement in the tender, Torghatten Nord chose to opt for fully electric operation between Svolvær and Skrova! This once again reinforces their forward-thinking position in green shipping and their admirable willingness to embrace future-oriented and innovative solutions. The battery electric ferry will be built at Western Baltija Shipbuilding in Klaipeda, Lithuania, and we look forward to a productive collaboration with them on this fantastic project. The ferry will enter service in Lofoten as soon as it is delivered from the shipyard in 2026. In Norwegian Ship Design, we are grateful once again to cooperate with a shipping company and shipyard that believes in our emission-free designs, and we thank them for the trust they show by choosing us as partners in another green project.
