As sister projects, Ruralities and NES are united in their mission to revitalize #ruralareas, focusing on key groups like individuals over 45, vulnerable communities, and particularly #ruralwomen—a group facing unique challenges such as limited job opportunities, restricted access to services, and overburdened responsibilities. 🌹CTIC showcased how Project RURALITIES leverages training initiatives and digital tools to empower these groups, fostering autonomy and inclusion in rural economic and social development. 🙏Special thanks to Almudena Muñoz and Kika M. About us
The project ‘Climate smart, ecosystem-enhancing and knowledge-based rural expertise and training centres’ (RURALITIES) delivers an ecosystem-enhancing and climate action driven expertise and learning framework organised in hubs e.g. the ‘RURALITIES’, comprising a series of innovative methodologies with the learner at its core, supported by a comprehensive network of living labs, and a blockchain-based digital platform combining the Internet and wireless technologies, to assist engage, connect and empower actors. RURALITIES is rooted in the recruitment, preparation, training and coaching of 1.000+ facilitators (KPI) distributed in all participating countries, for a variety of tasks (e.g. trainers, facilitators, role models, hub coordinators, etc.), and who play a significant role in creating the matrix and the platform upon which the learning framework is built, develops and evolves. RURALITIES proposes to ideate, implement, futureproof, validate and deliver the aforementioned expertise and learning centres via real-scale practicing in 7 simplified rural socio-ecological systems (SIMSES) e.g. demonstrators, 2 in Italy, 1 in the United- Kingdom (UK), 1 in Slovenia, 1 in Spain and 1 in Romania. RURALITIES coordinates identified actions of local, regional authorities in supports of rural innovation in regions and economic sectors where rural innovators are not yet engaged in a relevant network. RURALITIES coordinates identified SIMSES networks promoting rural innovation solutions whilst establishing innovative multipoints ‘RURALITIES Hubs’ of expertise and training on rural innovation. To support and lead them towards sustainable, balanced and inclusive development. 💛 This is the core of the Project RURALITIES, connecting Europe with Africa. 🌱 How can sustainable agricultural practices transform local communities and fight against environmental degradation?🌾 ✳Our Project RURALITIES partner 𝗜𝗙𝗔-𝗬𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶 in CONGO, initiated innovative agricultural strategies in Bakumu-Mandombe, #Ubundu. With an area covering 67,982 ha, their experimental plots are designed to support both environmental and economic growth for the ±65,000 residents in the region. Our dedicated efforts are now centered in the BAKILO village (PK41 on RN4), where we have set up CEDIADE—our Centre for Experiments and Demonstrations of Innovations in Sustainable and Ecological Agriculture. This initiative aims to revolutionize agricultural practices and bolster environmental conservation in the region. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Initial site preparations, plot demarcations, and establishment of sustainable practices such as non-incineration and organic matter enrichment. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 led by Prof. Nsalambi Nkongolo, Prof. Ferdinand Kombele Bishosha, and a robust team of scientists and engineers. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵: Four experimental plots are set up across varied soil and vegetation types—ranging from grassy wastelands to dense forests, each tailored for unique perennial and rotational crops.
