#The #Unknown #benefits of #Solar-powered #food #drying facilities You may probably know one of the benefits of drying food with solar driers is #food #preservation, but the #truth is, drying food with #solar-powered #driers has a lot more #environmental and #economic benefits besides food preservation. Here are just a few other reasons why you need to get a solar-powered drying facility: 1. #Food #Loss #Prevention: In Tanzania, most food products are #sold and #consumed #raw and rarely get #processed. As a result, perishable food products like #fruits and #vegetables that are either uneaten or unsold spoil very quickly. With solar drier, unsold food products can be dried, preserved, and sold as dried food products. 2. #Value #Addition: Today, dried fruits and vegetables have become consumers’ new taste in bigger towns and cities like Dar es Salaam. Small and big stores are now stocked with dried fruits and vegetables sold as snacks for busy commuters. With solar-powered drying facilities, #food #vendors can process and dry these products 24/7 without worrying about #power #blackouts. 3. #Enhanced #Food #Safety: For most parts of Tanzania, food safety remains a major #concern for consumers and potential buyers of dried food products. The traditional methods of drying food with the #sun or #smoking methods can potentially cause #food-#borne #diseases to #consumers. These food safety concerns have left many to fear buying sun-dried food products. With our cabinet solar driers, you have #clean, #safe, and #tasty dried food products. Are you a #farmer #struggling with #food #spoilage with fruits and vegetables and don’t know what to do? Are you a #small #business still throwing away so much food because you have #nowhere to store food when #buyers don’t show up? Would you like a solar-powered food-drying facility for your small business? Are you a #company or #organization working with farmers in Tanzania? Would you like to get solar-driers to your farmers? IF the #ANSWER is #YES, contact us, and our #team will be happy to visit your site and design a solar drier that #matches your #needs. #leavingnofoodbehind #sustainablefoodsystem #solardrier Global Resilience Partnership Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Global Seaweed Coalition UNDP Tanzania UNDP Accelerator Labs WFP Innovation Accelerator TAREA TZ UC Postharvest Center The Postharvest Education Foundation Mtandao wa Vikundi vya Wakulima Tanzania(MVIWATA) Blandina Kilama Dr. Lisa Kitinoja

This past month, the World Economic Forum released “#The #Future of #Jobs #Report #2025,” an expert-led analysis and insights into various #factors shaping the #future of the global job #market. Not #surprisingly, the report finds that with growing #climate #change threats, jobs and skills to support the global #transition to #greener #technologies, such as the adoption of #solar-#powered #technologies, will be in #high #demand and more #impactful to the global #economy in the near future. More importantly, the report calls for #investment in “#green #skills” and building more workforce in this #untapped #career #path in several countries, especially the developing economies. At MAVUNOLAB, we are proud that our ongoing training, research, and product development, which focus on #clean #energy #solutions for sustainable food systems, prepare #young #men and #women in #Tanzania with the needed green skills to grab job market opportunities in the green transition space. #Why #Tanzania Should from Learn from #India’s #Locally-led #Agritech #Success Like #Tanzania, India’s #agriculture sector is largely #dominated by rural #small-scale #farmers, with the majority relying on the sector for a living. Over the years, India’s small-scale farmers have made India a global #agriculture #giant. According to #FAO, India is the largest producer of #milk and #pulses and one of the leading producers of #rice, #wheat, #vegetables, and #fruits, feeding not just its rapidly growing population but also consumers in #North #America, #Europe, #Africa, and its neighbors in #Asia. Despite India’s agrarian success, the nation’s small-scale farmers still face significant challenges slowing down the sector’s growth. Similar to Tanzania, productivity per farmer is still relatively low, and postharvest losses are high, especially on perishables. About #20% of #fruits, #vegetables, and #fresh #milk do not reach consumers because of a lack of proper #pos-tharvest storage #infrastructure. Today, through supportive government policies such as the #Digital #Agriculture #Mission, heavy promotion of public-private partnerships (#PPs) in agriculture, and increased domestic and foreign investment in #agritech, India’s researchers and engineers are at the forefront of solving these challenges. In the postharvest technology space, the implementation of those policies has led to the growth of several Indian start-ups that are driving several postharvest innovations in India. Some of these start-ups include Ecozen, S4S Technologies , Raheja Solar Food Processing and several others, developing groundbreaking solutions to end India’s postharvest food loss problem while exporting their innovative technologies outside India. Learning from India’s success last year, MAVUNOLAB met with Ecozen's Vice President Kamlesh Samaliya in Dar es Salaam establishing collaboration opportunities between Ecozen and MAVUNOLAB in the areas of knowledge sharing and technology transfer. At MAVUNOLAB, given the similarity in agriculture systems between #India and #Tanzania, companies such as Ecozen offer a unique opportunity to advance our very own postharvest technologies while also learning from their success. We are excited about the opportunity to work with Ecozen and look forward to working together in advancing tech solutions for small-scale farmers. #leavingnofoodbehind #postharvestinnovation #IndiaTZAgritech UNDP Tanzania UC Postharvest Center The Postharvest Education Foundation The ADM Institute for the Prevention of Postharvest Loss Abhishek Dwivedi Feed the Future MRR Innovation Lab Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Horticulture Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) UNDP World Food Programme Dr. Lisa Kitinoja

#Stories from the #Field How #WhatsApp is helping MAVUNOLAB receive #feedback, #track and #monitor performance of the deployed #solar-powered #driers. With increased #internet penetration in Tanzania, communication platforms like WhatsApp have simplified MAVUNOLAB work in #reaching and #responding to solar-drier users #concerns while also monitor the performance of our driers. In this short video clip shared by farmers in #Mlali ward, Morogoro who are currently using MAVUNOLAB solar driers. The video clip shows in just two hours, these leafy vegetables commonly known as #Tembele were fully dried. This is one of the best performances for our wooden cabinet solar driers that we recently introduced to try cut down the overall cost of solar drier fabrication. As we continue to advance our solar-drying technology and explore better options to serve the end-users of our solar driers, our team will continue to leverage on the power of WhatsApp and other platforms to receive #instant feedback and address any issues that solar-driers users may face after #deployment. #leavingnofoodbehind #endusersfirst #sustainablefoodsystem Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) The Postharvest Education Foundation International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) UC Postharvest Center Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Horticulture UNDP Tanzania Royal Academy of Engineering
