Last Friday, I had a lovely snowy site visit to Lumb Bank. It was fantastic to see the frame in place for the Glulam link structure (courtesy of Constructional Timber (Manufacturers) Ltd) while renovations to the House and Barn continue to progress rapidly. We are delighted that Manresa House, our project for The Society of Jesus Jesuits in Britain - has won the 2024 Small Housing Development Award at the Brick Awards. Brick Development Association (BDA) The judges stated - "The extensive use of clay brick, both internally and eternally works well. The project blends well into the local residential area and provides a suitable and safe environment for the training priests and the supporting staff at Manresa House." The project situated in Harbourne, Birmingham, provides a home for new entrants to spend the first two years of their training mentored and supported by the permanent senior community. Manchester City Council has granted planning approval for the refurbishment and retrofit of Methodist Central Hall. The design for the redevelopment of the building will dramatically reconfigure the existing building’s layout and structure bringing a renewed sense of arrival, welcome, hospitality and sanctuary at entrance level. The project will knit all levels of accommodation together whilst the upgrade of the main hall and the new rooftop pavilion will transform the potential of the building and expand opportunities for welcoming new visitors. We completed a tiny eco-house for Lakes College in Cumbria last week… it took 3 days to fully assemble!! The purpose of this ‘kit’ building is to allow students to assemble and disassemble it as part of the learning process for Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and sustainable building practices. It showcases a wide range of low-carbon natural materials and innovative energy saving systems. New Jackson – a neighbourhood where families can grow and thrive. 🌟 Last night, ITV Granada Reports featured the grand opening of Crown Street Primary School. As the first new primary school in Manchester city centre in almost 20 years, it marks an important step in Renaker's ongoing commitment to supporting the community. We’re incredibly proud to deliver the school, and through our partnership with Laurus Trust and Manchester City Council, high-quality education is now part of the New Jackson neighbourhood. In addition to the 210 places at full capacity, the school will also support 24 pre-school children each year. Can you believe this is the first school to open in Manchester city centre for nearly twenty years? That's incredible. As the structural engineering team behind this project, we helped bring this vision to life. We designed an innovative transfer structure, constructed ahead of the school design, to accommodate the three-story basement car park. Inspired by schools you see in New York, it's a robust structure with a double-height multi-use space that cantilevers over the footpath. The flat soffit concrete slabs offer maximum flexibility for service distribution, ensuring a functional and efficient learning environment where children from the local area can thrive. Developments like Crown Street demonstrate the power of placemaking to create sustainable and thriving communities. The school, built by RENAKER, is a unique building with four floors and a rooftop playground, a first in Manchester since the early 1900s, and a design which mirrors schools found in London and New York. We're very pleased to announce the completion of the unitised façade on the Denton Corker Marshall-designed ‘#Bankside’ tower—Phase 2 of the RENAKER Colliers Yard Masterplan! Standing tall at 42 stories, this residential tower is enveloped in sleek glass and natural anodised aluminium, accented by a striking black geometric grid. The unique design features a repeating pattern of four-storey stacked tiers, layered with a distinctive geometric grid that adds depth and visual intrigue, while subtly shifting the perception of scale....in other words, it looks fantastic! The Bankside tower not only makes a bold statement but also harmonizes beautifully with the Colliers Yard neighbourhood, enhancing the architectural dialogue within the family of towers. With all apartments also sold, we are looking forward to phase 3, more news coming soon!!
