Guided Biotics for precise & selective control of your microbiome
About us
FOLIUM Science leads the way in bioscience technology for the healthy biotic era. With game-changing, patented science that harnesses naturally occurring mechanisms to selectively remove unwanted pathogenic and spoilage bacteria, FOLIUM Science is working to deliver solutions for increased productivity at all points in the food and agriculture value chain Application in animal rearing High bacterial burdens create waste, provide a human zoonotic risk, or inhibit growth and consequentially the productive rearing of animals. FOLIUM’s Guided Biotics™ act as a preventative measure when added to animal feed; selectively reducing the bacterial burden of the animal. Our Guided Biotics™ are complementary to other feed additives such as enzymes and probiotics, to provide a total effective feed supplement and effective bacterial manager in healthy animal rearing. FOLIUM has solutions for all Enterobacteriaceae as well as other specific bacteria Application in plant lifecycle Guided Biotics™ can also be used in plants; selectively removing plant pathogens that can create significant waste in world crops. FOLIUM has solutions for over 70% of all bacteria blight, wilt or rot issues Application to support soil condition Our technology will help condition soil with inoculators by maintaining the right bacterial colonies and condition of the soil, thus maintaining the optimal productive potential for a specific plant requirement. By controlling the bacterial population, FOLIUM's technology base will support the bacterial Biome in the soil to aid plant growth throughout its life cycle of germination, growth, reproduction, pollination, budding, flowering or fruiting.

🌍 Innovative feed ingredient harnessing CRISPR in its natural microbiome setting gains approval FOLIUM Science, a UK based leader in microbiome bioscience, is pleased to announce that the innovative component for its new product, BiomElix One, has been approved by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture (MAPA) for use as an animal feed additive and included in their Positive List of Feed Ingredients. This approval comes after extensive review of efficacy data in poultry and detailed evaluation by Brazilian authorities. BiomElix One was developed using FOLIUM Science’s proprietary CRISPR-Cas based technology platform called Guided Biotics. It uses natural biological systems to modulate the microbiome improving productivity by removing unwanted microbes and bacteria, while preserving the beneficial ones, resulting in a healthier animal gut. BiomElix One has previously received endorsement as non-GMO from the Brazilian National BioSafety Committee (CTNBio) under its 'new breeding technique' normative. This safety endorsement came as our technology utilises naturally occurring microbiome pathways to improve the microbiome’s effectiveness and productivity with extreme precision and without unwanted disruption of the animal gut. Brazil is one of the world’s largest producers of poultry, beef, and pork, making the approval of BiomElix One main component an important step forward in sustainable agriculture. Rising concerns about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) means new technology has a big role to play. Now, BiomElix One can be part of the toolkit for targeted management of productivity in the face of all Salmonella, and help address challenges such as improving feed efficiency, enhancing animal welfare, and reducing the environmental impact of livestock farming. “This is a significant milestone for us as a business as well as for the animal nutrition industry” says FOLIUM Science CEO Ed Fuchs. “Not only does it demonstrate our unique expertise in the use of CRISPR technology to manage microbiomes and support an animal’s gut, but it also supports the industry’s goals to meet consumer demands for meat produced without excessive use of antibiotics. This may be the dawn of next generation probiotics, but the hard work is yet to come" We’re seeking strategic partners for large-scale pre-commercial studies in Brazil to further demonstrate BiomElix One’s commercial impact on productivity and food safety. If you’re passionate about transforming agriculture and want to collaborate on our journey, reach out to us! Together, we can bring out the best in nature. #Innovation #CRISPR #SustainableFarming #FoodSafety #AnimalHealth #Biotechnology #MicrobiomeManagement #AgricultureRevolution 🔗 Visit us at https://lnkd.in/eZJkMKfD and follow FOLIUM Science for updates. At FOLIUM Science we focus on environmental stewardship in our food supply chain. It is fantastic to see how an initial idea formed earlier last year has been nurtured into support from Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Innovate UK. With great support like this and our great products from our #GuidedBiotic technology platform, such as #SWIFTRBiosensor, #BiomElix and #BiomMod ranges we can sustain a healthy secure food supply
📰 Ammonia emissions pose a significant risk to human and environmental health and have been hitting the headlines recently! Did you know that the UK government is committed to reduce ammonia levels by 16% (compared to 2005 levels) by 2030? 🐔 One of the main contributors is the poultry sector, where intensive production is devastating local environments, such as the Wye Valley. High levels of ammonia can also impact bird welfare and productivity. 🦠 The rate limiting step in ammonia production is catalyzed by microbial enzymes called ureases that are produced by the #microbiomes present in poultry houses. FOLIUM Science is repurposing its #GuidedBiotics #CRISPR technology to specifically modulate the microbiome to reduce ammonia emissions and to improve nitrogen utilization in the bird. This clearly shows the potential for our technology to tackle environmental problems such as #airpollution and #climatechange. 🌟 We're grateful to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs's support through Innovate UK that has permitted this important research and development.
