GPI is a new approach to concessional international public finance for sustainable development. For everyone.
About us
Global Public Investment (GPI) is an ambitious, out-of-the-box, and transformative approach to some of the most pressing problems international society confronts: from the pandemic to climate change. It has the goal of bringing about a major paradigm shift in how we raise international public finance. It has struck a chord of recognition amongst a growing group of donors, practitioners, and academics. And it has the potential to inspire people and mobilize broad support.

📢 NEW SUBSTACK | Welcome to 2025: can we thrive with less America? #2025 will be a defining year. This is the time to rethink how we tackle global challenges and build systems that are inclusive and resilient. If poorly managed, 2025 could be taking a step closer to calamity. Yet, there remains a narrow path to a better system, one where international cooperation thrives, even amidst uncertainty and a shifting political order. In our latest #Substack, Hassan Damluji & Jonathan Glennie highlight 5 key trends that could define this year – and the path forward. Read the full piece here 👇 https://lnkd.in/d_QUCRRY

We recently read the report titled "Putting our money where our mouth is" by Oliver Pearce from Christian Aid. Excellent read on public climate finance, link is at the bottom of the post. The focus on climate finance needs to shift from quantity to quality. How does that look? The report offers many clues. Quality international climate finance: -Has a positive impact on people living in poverty and facing increasing risks from climate change -Does not discriminate against any groups -Does not increase lower-income countries’ debt -Includes low and ‘fragile’ contexts at least as much as middle income and more ‘stable’ countries -Focuses as much on adaptation and Loss and Damage as on mitigation -Complements and reinforces investments in key public services. The money is there, we just need to find it, and put it to good use. A simple yet powerful reminder for FFD4. This video with a participation from Solange Baptiste Simon reminds us of what a modern and responsive international financial architecture needs to look like. We call it "the ABCD of modern development finance", with our four FFD recommendations: 1) Renew the focus on international public finance 2) Reform and replenish institutions 3) Funds fit for the 21st century 4) Expand grants-based funding Want to know more? Who are the owners of aid? International bodies? Northern countries? The answer is: regular citizens around the world. However, the current system of development finance doesn't reflect that. It hasn't accurately represented voices in developing countries. If we are interested in better results, we should foster accountability and ownership, and that can only happen when we give a voice to all countries internationally and to civil society domestically.
