Advanced Epi are excited to be working with Kubos Semiconductors, Oxford Instruments plc and Wafer Technology Ltd. on an Innovate UK funded project to develop 3C-SiC substrates for the growth of cubic-GaN. Nice thing about large microLED arrays for data transmission is that you can have redundancy. I am not sure we need it though. Here is all 288 modulated data channels of microLEDs on 16nm silicon for about 1Tb/s total bandwidth.

Innovate UK has just returned from another rewarding Global Business Innovation Programme #GBIP visit to #Taiwan with a jet-lagged, but high-spirited delegation of UK #semiconductor innovators with expertise in #photonics, #compoundsemiconductors, IP and design #AI. SEMICON presented a great opportunity for a second visit to Taiwan, to follow up on a tailored week back in June where they had high level engagements with United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), ASE Global Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI)(工業技術研究院, 工研院), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Tsing Hua University and explored technology and innovation collaborations in B2B meetings with PIDA - Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association. It was fantastic to see the delegates increase market knowledge and insight, build on momentum, further cement relationships and shape collaboration projects and partnership opportunities. It was clear from the week that the UK and Taiwan have great synergies and complementary strengths, which both the UK and Taiwan are keen to exploit, and there is a genuine and mutual respect and intention to #makethingshappen.   It was a privilege to have the support of Dave Smith, Martin Kent during the week. Highlights included VIP visits to the UK Pavilion from leading Semiconductor companies TSMC, MediaTek, UMC to name a few and share some British traditions, tea, scones and shortbread with other potential collaborators from Taiwan and around the globe.  A special mention to Blueshift Memory for pitching a place in the IC Taiwan Grand Challenge and QuInAs-ULTRARAM™ Memory - Future Compute/AI & Space who won a prize of US$30k, and access to the state-of-the-art Taiwanese chip industry. That said, all of our amazing UK companies were winners. They raised the profile of the UK in Taiwan and I am confident that we will see relationships strengthen and collaborations materialise over the coming months and years. We will certainly be back in Taiwan again soon!
