  • Opergy Net Zero is delighted to be working on the Decarbonising Local Industrial Clusters project with the Greater South East Net Zero Hub.  This report has mapped industrial clusters across the Greater South East region and highlights the scale of the opportunity for local industrial decarbonisation. The final few pages of the report also offer a hint of what's to come over the remainder of the project and the software tool we are developing for trial and release in 2025. Please do check out the report, get in touch and watch this space for exciting developments next year. Thanks go to the brilliant team working on this project: Peter Gudde, Steve Baggs, Kirsten Firth, Sarah Niddrie-Webb, Sam Reade, Connor Enright, Christopher Ayres, Ella Craggs, Amelia Fuller, Leo Hone, Chris Blincoe, Johnathan Reynolds, Andy Holyland 👏 #industrialdecarbonisation #industrialclusters #netzero #localindustrialclusters

There are more than 500 industrial clusters in the Greater South East... Could we help your local authority decarbonise them?   A study by Opergy Net Zero, commissioned by the Hub, identified hundreds of sites which could reduce emissions through collaboration with their local businesses.    The study builds on findings from recent projects we've supported which highlighted the benefits of businesses coming together to plan and utilise shared technology or infrastructure.    Read the study here: https://lnkd.in/egmAWs7b   Need help decarbonising industrial clusters in your area? • 👀 In Downham Market, the journey to net zero is underway, thanks to a series of community-driven intiatives which mean the town is no stranger to taking steps toward a greener future. ✋ However, there is no getting carried away with 46.46 kilotonnes of CO2 being emitted annually, meaning there is still plenty of work that must be done - especially when it will use up the entirety of its carbon budget as soon as 2030 if it continues at its current rate. 🌳 When asked, 50% of residents said they would be willing take action to reduce emissions and fight climate change, with an appetite for a host of solutions uncovered, including overhauling the transport landscape in the town with electric vehicle taxis, EV chargers and E-scooters, along with smart thermostats and domestic solar panels to bring down emissions in the built environment. ⚡ Our proposed pathway for Downham Market could see emissions drop by almost 90% by 2050, though with limited land use space, there could be difficulties for new nature-based solutions. This means residents and businesses face having to work with surrounding landowners to create new outdoor spaces. 🤝 By focusing on practical, community-driven solutions like improving public transport and boosting energy efficiency in homes, we can make a real impact - fast!  🔗 The full #NetZeroPathways report is available on our website! • ☀️ The prospect of new solar farms has been continuously in the news over the past few months and according to new research, they could play a big role in "significantly" lowering the cost of electricity. 💡 Solar Energy UK has called on the government to triple solar capacity to 60GW by 2030, highlighting academic analysis from Durham University that shows it would substantially decrease electricity costs if done alongside a great expansion of energy storage and flexibility too. 👀 Catch up on this story and others in Opergy's weekly news round-up (link in comments). #solar #solarenergy #energystorage #flexibility #energytransition

  • 🏡 Consumers are not confident in the benefits of green heating and insulation, according to research released by the Trust Alliance Group. 🤷♂️ Cost, the need for warranties and installer qualifications were all highlighted as main reasons behind a lack of trust in the sector, with the research also uncovering a desire for a regulatory body to oversee green heating products to improve confidence. 👀 Dig deeper into this story and plenty more in our news catch-up of some of the big stories to come out over the last week (link in comments). #greenheating #insulation #energytransition #netzero #energyefficiency

  • 🍃 Clean energy initiatives set for Kent 🤝 There have been a handful of key announcements of new clean energy projects of late, with Kent set to play host to several - including Low Carbon plotting a 500MW solar and energy storage park, and Nautilus. Nautilus was originally set to be built in Suffolk, but Ofgem has revealed the 1.4GW interconnector, which will link Belgian offshore windfarms to Britain, will now come ashore at the Isle of Grain in Kent. 🔗 Read more on the plans, as well as some of the other big stories of the past week, by visiting the story in our comments. #solar #energystorage #netzero #lowcarbon #energytransition

  • 👥 Thetford: A Collaborative Approach to Net Zero 🤝 💨 Back in 2012 the Thetford Area Action Plan was formally adopted, and proposed a number of forward thinking policies for sustainable development, greener transport, renewable energy and low carbon housing. Whilst groups like the Thetford Business Forum are working collaboratively to further sustainable development goals in the town, there are obstacles standing in its way, not least 78.07 kilotonnes of CO2e being emitted each year, a figure that could be even higher if it were not for land use leading to -25.7ktCO2e being sequestered or absorbed.   🗣️ Engaging with residents, we uncovered significant concern around climate change, an eagerness for sustainable transport options, and opportunities for collaborative projects between businesses. So what could be done?  🚴 Thetford could bring emissions down by 90% between 2024 and 2050 under our proposed pathway, including the introduction of initiatives such as the Digi-Go bookable minibus scheme, a Charge Fairy scheme, smart thermostats and solar canopies. ☀️ Learn more about Thetford's Net Zero Pathway by visiting our website (link in comments). #NetZero #Thetford #Sustainability #CommunityEngagement Opergy Group

  • 👍 Approvals have been granted to five major undersea energy links by Ofgem, including the LionLink project which is set to connect Dutch offshore windfarms to the GB grid with an onshore landing point in Suffolk - another key puzzle piece in the UK's pursuit of clean power by 2030. 🔋 As Opergy Net Zero Managing Director, Andy Holyland said last week, "Clean power 2030 is achievable" but dependent on "our choices" and, quoting George S. Patton, "A good plan violently (decisively) executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week".  🔗 Learn more about the plans (as well as some of the other big stories of the last week) by visiting our website - link in comments. #offshorewind #interconnection #lionlinkproject #offshoreenergy #suffolk

  • 🌱 Hethersett - a community-driven pathway to Net Zero 🍃 Our work with Hethersett began with a carbon baseline assessment, uncovering CO2 emissions of 29.4ktCO2 a year against a carbon budget through to 2100 of 203ktCO2. At the current rate of emissions, however, that carbon budget will be used up by 2031. So, what can be done? Engaging with residents, we found a majority (60%) feel well informed about net zero and that there is a strong desire to see better public transport and wildlife conservation, among other things. Our suggested pathway focuses on creating tangible local change, including introducing Digi-Go electric minibus services and more EV charging points, as well as encouraging a shift from oil and gas to electric heating in homes, along with insulation upgrades and LED lighting. ⚡ Visit our website to learn more about a potential pathway to Net Zero for Hethersett. #NetZero #Sustainability #Hethersett #NetZeroPathways Opergy Group
