Ivan Harbour pays tribute to Lord Elis-Thomas following the announcement of his passing on February 7. "Lord Elis-Thomas, the first Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales, played a significant role in the establishment and early years of the Assembly building. The Senedd, as it is now known, embodies the principles of transparency, accessibility, and sustainability, reflecting its role as a home for Welsh democracy. Dafydd was fully behind and understood the building’s symbolic importance, consequently he placed great trust in us, and we in him, throughout the process of seeing it realised. His support was invaluable, and his legacy will endure forever in the democratic arrangement of the Siambr, and his naming of the building and its principal rooms."

Just published in Building Magazine 5 min with John McElgunn: https://lnkd.in/e8WBhV4M Here’s a 2 min snapshot: Struggling with undiagnosed dyslexia at school, John discovered architecture through a love of woodwork, metalwork, and technical drawing. Proudest achievement? Seven years shaping The British Museum World Conservation Centre, working with a young, diverse RSHP team to create not just a Stirling Prize-shortlisted building, but also lasting relationships with the client, the professional team and the contractors. # His mission? Breaking down barriers to make architecture more accessible for all. “If I were coming out of school today from the same social economic background, I would not be able to study architecture. I find that utterly depressing.” Equally, he wants to ensure that talent is not lost to industry pressure, especially for young parents. Top advice for aspiring architects? Master quick sketching—it is a game-changer in meetings. And drop the architecture lingo! Favuorite buildings? Beinecke Rare Book Library by SOM (Yale) & Selimiye Mosque (Turkey). Loves? A well-poured Guinness, travel, and a long lunch. Most helpful advice? From his sister Clodagh McElgunn who encouraged him to chase interviews directly after all his UK UCAS applications were rejected. Oh...., and he once competed in the Irish Coffee World Championships!

With a total construction area of 527,440.5m2, the Zhongyuan International Convention Centre (Phase 2) is going to be huge! In fact, its central spine is just over a mile long! Imagine this scale on a London map: the building would span from Buckingham Palace, pass Trafalgar Square, to the Golden Jubilee Bridge at Charing Cross. Benjamin Warner, Managing Director, RSHP Asia: "The Zhongyuan Convention will define the aspirations of the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone as an international hub. Built to an extremely challenging timeline, RSHP is proud to be working closely with the client, local architects and contractors to deliver a building set to become a truly amazing architectural and engineering landmark" Project Director: Richard Paul Project Lead: Tadashi A Check out our previous post for exclusive footage showcasing the latest progress on-site, also visit our website to learn more about the project: https://lnkd.in/e9t8Sz_Q #onsite #construction #Zhengzhou #ZhengzhouChina #RSHP #RSHPAsia #ConventionCentre

The Zhongyuan International Convention Centre (Phase 2) is advancing swiftly! In this video, the RSHP team have captured some key construction developments - look out for major elements of the structure that will define the final design, including the spectacular floating roof sections, with spans of 100m, supported by 18m-tall V-shaped steel columns. Richard Paul, Director, RSHP: “Phase 2 of the Zhongyuan International Convention Centre will make the overall site a major venue in Central China. Its prime location, adjacent to the international airport, makes it ideal for hosting a wide range of national and global events including the 3rd China National Skills Competitions in 2025. It is set to become a nationally significant landmark, easily recognizable and visible from both land and air.” Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes insights at how we are bringing this architectural landmark building to life! The latest edition of DomusAir features an excellent overview of Melbourne's five new Metro Tunnel Project stations. Explore concept drawings, visualisations, site photos, and team insights into a project that will transform the way people move around Melbourne. Ivan Harbour, Senior Director, RSHP shares some of his insights into the design: “Our approach and interpretation of the brief, to design an ‘open metro’, is focused on making a dynamic relationship line wide between the stations below and above ground, where the portals stretch upwards and outwards, framing the eye skywards, whilst bringing light and natural ventilation below.” Read more and explore the article upload below: Article pdf courtesy of Domus© Editoriale Domus S.p.A. Big thanks to Maddalena Monti for setting up the feature. The design for the Metro Tunnel is a world-class collaboration between leading design practices Hassell, Weston Williamson + Partners and RSHP, as part of the CYP Design and Construction Joint Venture. #MetroTunnel #DomusAir #DomusMagazine #Melbourne #UrbanTransport #Melbourne #IvanHarbour #transportation, One Works,

At the British Ambassador's residence in Paris during the UK Architecture Showcase, Stephen Barrett and Hamish Crockett delivered talks as part of the UK Architecture Showcase hosted by Department for Business and Trade and British Embassy Paris. In A Tale of Two Cities: London and Paris, Stephen discussed the similarities and the contrasts between these two great metropolises, with reference to urban form, the principles of the compact city, height, innovation and regulation. Concluding that there are strengths and challenges in each case, with lessons to be learned in both directions - Vive la difference! In his panel discussion: Nouveau ou (Re)Nouveau with Alice Barrois (Grimshaw), Hamish discussed the following points: - Even with a retrofit first approach, the first question should be “Where are appropriate locations for density?” - Ambitiously sustainable new development can unlock urban improvements in certain cases when the location is right. - Changes are needed to make sure retrofit first is adopted more widely; financial, regulatory, and policy objectives need to consistently align. Hamish Crockett “The exhibition was a great opportunity to connect and reconnect with current, past, and future clients and partners, in an original setting. The quality of the work on show was a great advert for the collaborative environment UK architects and engineers like to work in.”

Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to exhibit at the UK Architecture Showcase held at the stunning British Ambassador's residence in Paris. It was such a pleasure to spend two days taking visitors through our portfolio of work in this wonderful setting, reconnecting with collaborators, clients, and expanding our network of new friends and contacts. The event showcased the best of British architecture and engineering, and we presented a range of architectural models: Musée du Louvre Conservation Centre, Barajas Airport, the Metro Tunnel in Melbourne, Richard Rogers Drawing Gallery, and the competition model for our first project in France, Centre Pompidou A special thank you to the RSHP French team Hamish Crockett, Nicola Carnevali, Stephen Barrett, who shared insights into our portfolio of work and delivered talks; our amazing modelshop team Kelly Darlington and Dan Rogers, for architectural model transportation and stand set up; and the British Embassy Paris, Department for Business and Trade for the invite and for running such a successful event.
