Focusing on developing and encouraging women within the utilities sector. #WUN
About us
WUN was started in 2018 when a group of five like minded women, working in utilities, united around a common cause. All came with differing experiences and very different career paths, but had achieved seniority within their own organisations. What bonded the founders, was a common frustration about, and a passion to improve gender balance, equality and equity across the sector. They all felt that they'd achieved seniority against all odds and it was a lonely place to be a woman. And from there the Womens Utilities Network was founded. WUN provides a platform to give women support to enable their personal growth and career development. Core to the ethos of WUN is providing practical help and support to our members, through events, podcasts, mentoring and opportunities to network. WUN also launched the first Women In Utilities Awards in 2024 to high acclaim. As the WUN movement grows it is constantly extending its offer and seeking opportunities to create positive change in the sector as women remain under-represented at senior levels and at all levels face into daily challenges associated with working in a male dominated work environment. WUN is free to join and aims to be as inclusive as possible in its work.

💡Fantastic opportunity for 2025 MBA with Specialism in Sustainable Energy Futures 💻FIND OUT MORE AT OUR WEBINAR ON THURSDAY 16TH JANUARY 16:00 🚀We’ll explore the benefits of pursuing an MBA and discuss how this programme can elevate careers in utilities. Email karen@thewun.co.uk to book you place. 🎓As part of our commitment to developing and tackling gender imbalance in utilities, WUN and energy consultancy Clyde Ventures, are delighted to have secured an opportunity with the University of Strathclyde Business School. With over 50 years’ experience in developing a groundbreaking MBA programme, the triple accredited Strathclyde Business School is a major innovator in the field of business and management. Developed jointly by Strathclyde Business School and industry partners from the energy sector, the MBA with Specialism in Sustainable Energy Futures, builds on the highly successful Strathclyde MBA and sees leading academics work with industry partners to tackle some of the key issues facing the industry right now, exploring future trends and development and preparing the workforce of the future. 🌐The programme will help decision-makers to develop a systems-thinking perspective for their organisations, mindful that place-based approaches can support collaborations towards net zero and a just transition towards more resilient communities. 💡Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside other leaders in their industry, across sectors and siloes, to develop holistic propositions and polices that can create policy change, social impact and social innovation. 📈If your organisation pays into the apprenticeship levy, some of the MBA fees could be drawn down from the levy fund. Most companies don’t fully utilise their apprenticeship levy pot, so we see this a great way to retain future leaders in your organisation, which is an increasing challenge to all of our partners. Still not sure ?– read the blog by Della Newton ENGIE as she reflects the impact of the MBA on her professionally & personally https://lnkd.in/e-GGqEZJ #utilities #mba #inspiringwomen #career #sustainableenergy

Breaking the Cycle: How Mentors and Mentees Can Overcome Sticking Points. Ever find yourself running in circles around the same issue? You’re not alone. Whether you’re a mentee grappling with a career dilemma or a mentor striving to provide clarity, we’ve all faced moments where progress feels just out of reach. The latest WUN blog- "Round & Round " will help both mentors and mentees to work together to navigate these sticking points effectively. Common Challenges and Solutions 💡 The Overwhelm Factor Sometimes, issues feel insurmountable because they’re too big or too vague. Breaking them into smaller, actionable steps can provide clarity. 🔹 Tip for mentors: Help mentees frame their challenges as specific, solvable questions. 🔹 Tip for mentees: Be honest about where you feel stuck and open to fresh perspectives. 💡 The Feedback Loop Both mentors and mentees can sometimes fall into repetitive conversations without finding solutions. Injecting new tools or frameworks into the discussion can reignite creativity. 🔹 Example: Use brainstorming exercises, role-playing scenarios, or mapping out potential outcomes. 💡 Accountability Matters When progress stalls, accountability can be the missing link. Setting clear goals and checking in regularly ensures both parties stay on track. 🔹 Mentors: Provide structure by suggesting timelines for action steps. 🔹 Mentees: Commit to follow-through and share updates honestly. 💡Why use WUN Mentoring Programme ? The WUN mentoring programme is uniquely tailored to support women in the utilities sector, offering: 🔹Expert mentors with real-world experience. 🔹A structured framework for growth and collaboration. 🔹Practical resources to help mentors and mentees navigate challenges effectively. 💡Think the WUN Mentoring Programme might be a good fit for you & a great way to start 2025 ?
