We are excited by the news of the Partnership to End Cervical Cancer! 🎉 Unitaid and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, are piloting integrated cervical cancer screening and #HPVvaccination programs in Côte d'Ivoire and #Nigeria. This initiative will increase access and protect communities in Sub-Saharan Africa by combining vaccination for girls with screening and treatment for women, where #cervicalcancer rates are high. “We’re bringing critical services directly to the communities that need them most,” says Dr. Philippe Duneton, Executive Director of Unitaid. Recently returned from the incredible IPVC2024 Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, where I presented abstract posters developed by the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Program Partners Initiative (HAPPI) Consortium on key lessons from Nigeria’s successful introduction of the HPV vaccine. Deeply thrilled and grateful to be a part of the HAPPI team and for the unwavering commitment of every stakeholder who have worked to ensure a cervical cancer-free future for girls in Nigeria and across the world. The conference was also a fantastic opportunity to connect and engage in conversations with peers and experts about HPV and HPV-related disease prevention and treatments globally. Many of these discussions I believe are relevant to our local context in Nigeria. Edinburgh is a truly delightful and beautiful city—I definitely hope to visit soon, perhaps when it’s a bit warmer! #IPVC2024 #HPVVaccine #Nigeria #HAPPI

In #Nigeria’s Katsina State, Sheikh Dr. Ismail Zakariyya Al-Kashnawii is using his voice as a trusted religious leader to protect girls from #cervicalcancer. As both a Mallam and a father, Sheikh Ismail is breaking down misconceptions and building trust in the #HPVVaccine, ensuring families understand the importance of prevention. His efforts have contributed to over 680,000 girls in Katsina getting vaccinated, helping protect more than 12 million adolescent girls nationwide. 👏 This inspiring work is creating a healthier future for girls by combining faith, education, and community leadership.
