EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance BECOME PV (Boosting the Exploitation and COMmercialisation of Emerging PV technologies) workshop takes place in Brussels from today until Friday: https://lnkd.in/eVMANr3F PEARL project strongly supports this activity, especially by moderating the sessions "Large area processing" (Riikka Suhonen, VTT) and “Business models and spill-overs from other technologies” (Christian May, Fraunhofer FEP). Excellent talk by Tanja Ivanovska from our project partner Saule Technologies Inc. about their successes and challenges on the way to market readiness for flexible perovskite solar cells. Happy to meet colleagues for fruitful discussions: Thomas Kraft, Sjoerd Veenstra, Aldo Di Carlo and more.
About us
Several advantages arise from the incorporation of carbon electrode in the perovskite solar cell (PSC) architecture such as reduced material cost, improved device stability and simplified device fabrication process as well as lower emissions. Thus, the primary objective of PEARL is to realize flexible perovskite solar cells processed with industrially viable, scalable and environmentally sound methods, showing long term operational stability surpassing the IEC standards, efficiency of > 25%, lowered production costs below 0.3 EUR/Wp and minimal emissions < 0.01 kg CO2eq/kWh. To reach these objectives, PEARL is focusing on the development of planar, conventional n-i-p, and further n-i-c, device architectures utilizing low-temperature carbon pastes as the top electrodes aiming to the emerging markets of building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), vehicle integrated photovoltaics (VIPV) and internet of things (IoT).

🗓 📝 Save the Dates for #BAU2025! Join our consortium partner, Fraunhofer FEP and discover how #flexible #perovskite solar cells as developed in PEARL - Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells with Carbon Electrodes drive #innovation in the #building sector! 📅 When: January 13–17, 2025 📍 Where: Hall C2, Stand 528, Munich, Germany
Innovative layer systems for sustainable photovoltaic solutions in the building sector In the construction and building sector, sustainable solutions for reducing energy requirements and improving the carbon footprint are more in demand than ever. In view of rising energy prices and strict regulations for lower energy consumption in buildings, innovative technologies such as perovskite and organic solar cells offer great potential. However, the cost, durability and efficiency of these solar cells pose a major challenge. As part of the EU-funded PEARL - Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells with Carbon Electrodes and BOOSTER-OPV projects, the Fraunhofer FEP is developing new coating and process technologies that will significantly increase the durability and efficiency of solar cells and sustainably reduce costs and material requirements. At the BAU 2025 trade fair, Fraunhofer FEP will be presenting a number of pioneering technologies and demonstrating their potential applications in the construction and building sector from January 13 to 17, 2025 at the joint Fraunhofer booth in Hall C2, Booth 528. #ICIQNews | 📅 This week, ICIQ hosted the General Assembly of the EU-funded PEARL - Flexible Perovskite Solar Cells with Carbon Electrodes project. At the two-day event, the partners came together to assess the progress of the project after 12 months since it started. 💡 The #PEARL project aims to achieve improvements in solar energy technology by incorporating carbon electrodes into perovskite solar cell architecture. This enhancement is expected to lead to reduced material costs, increased device stability, simplified fabrication processes, and significantly lower emissions. 👥 The ICIQ research group led by Prof. Emilio Palomares is involved in the project, which is coordinated by TEKNOLOGIAN TUTKIMUSKESKUS VTT OY, and also counts with the collaboration of the Nederlandse Organisatie voor toegepast-natuurwetenschappelijk onderzoek TNO, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie GmbH, Università di Roma Tor Vergata, Dycotec Materials LTD, Fraunhofer FEP, University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland FHNW, Saule Technologies Inc. and Eni SPA.
