About us
The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts manages funds for the world’s 10th largest economy, processes millions of paper and electronic tax returns each year and continually searches for innovative solutions to streamline operations at one of Texas’ largest state agencies. Dedicated Comptroller employees work hard every day to ensure Texas taxpayers get the best possible government at the lowest possible cost. The Texas Comptroller's office was originally created by the Texas provisional government in 1835. The Comptroller is the chief steward of the state’s finances, acting as tax collector, chief accountant, chief revenue estimator and chief treasurer for all of state government, in addition to administering a number of other programs.

In the late 1800s, wild turkeys were nearly wiped out due to hunting. By 1919, state leaders responded by implementing conservation efforts, which included setting bag limits and hiring game wardens. Today, approximately 586,000 wild turkeys roam the state, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Staff from 29 divisions came together to fulfill holiday wish lists for 500 children through the Partnerships for Children’s Holiday Wishes Program, a Central Texas nonprofit supporting children in the foster care system. These thoughtful gifts range from clothes and dolls to tablets and bicycles. Employees also generously contributed funds to help caseworkers purchase gifts for children who recently entered the foster care system and didn’t have the opportunity to create a wish list. #WeAreCPA
