Composites have changed the world in last 40 years , the next step is changing again the world making composites more sustainable and also much cheaper - so to use composites and recycled composites instead of virgin and less environmental friendly materials.

🚀 Greenvehicles LEVIS was highlighted at #CNMAT2024 🌟   Mario Román Rodríguez from AIMEN Centro Tecnológico recently showcased the LEVIS project's innovative suspension arm at the National Congress of Materials (CNMAT2024) in Málaga. This development highlights cutting-edge manufacturing strategies and the integration of lighter, more sustainable materials in the automotive sector.   The suspension control arm is one of three real-case demonstrators developed by LEVIS, alongside a battery box set and a cross car beam. We would like to share knowledge of the natural fiber of jute, “The Golden Fiber”, and showcase high-tech jute composites, JuTech™, from our research projects, partly financed by the LIGHTer program. Jute is the most sustainable natural fiber in the world but remains largely unknown. Most people think of sacks and ropes and are unaware that jute can be used in high-tech solutions, for example, in the automotive industry, replacing glass fiber reinforcement in mold-injected composites. Considering the conference theme “Towards net-zero industry through lightweight innovation,” how does Juteborg contribute to this goal? - Jute is a lightweight material, and since it can replace glass fiber as reinforcement in many applications, the end product will be lighter. How much lighter depends on the material it replaces. Jute is also biodegradable, compostable, and the process from farmer to factory consumes a minimal amount of energy. Additionally, jute is a fast-growing crop, maturing in only 120 days and binds a significant amount of CO2 annually. What relationships do you hope to establish during the conference? - Juteborg seeks to be a development partner and wishes to cooperate with our end customers in the early design phases, as it is during these phases that the most crucial decisions are made regarding the sustainability of the end product. We are eager to explore more application areas for jute and, therefore, aim to develop more proof of concepts in close cooperation with companies primarily within the automotive, construction, interior, textile, and packaging sectors. Let me introduce you today to Christoph Schneeberger and his great team, whom I met during our #Composites360OnTour Vlogging at the recent JEC World 2024 (JEC Group). This spin-off from ETH Zürich had an idea that has in our view the potential of being a true disruptor. Rather than coating textile UD- or woven fabrics, NCFs and the like only, they coat single fibres. The main benefit is safer and more homogeneous coating along the endless single glass-fibres. Particularly, thermoplastics can be a bit of a challenge in conventional applications. There is now the Antefil Composite Tech solution. 🌟 We are proud to announce the successful wrap-up of the Greenvehicles LEVIS project at our final review meeting in Brussels! 🌟 It was an honour to have Salima Abu Jeriban, our Project Officer from the European Commission, join us as we wrapped up this remarkable journey towards sustainable electric vehicle innovation. Through three real-case demonstrators - a suspension arm, a battery box set, and a cross car beam - Greenvehicles LEVIS showcased the incredible potential of sustainable lightweight EV components. The project has delivered impressive results: ▪ 32% average weight reduction compared to conventional vehicle components ▪ Significant cost savings ▪ Recycling rates up to 85% for multi-material components ▪ A 23% reduction in global warming potential at the component level ▪ Potential replication in over 60% of vehicle chassis and body components We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the Greenvehicles LEVIS partners for their dedication and excellent collaboration. Developing a circular business model for the frontrunning key exploitable result of RECREATE On March 12th, 2024, RECREATE partners met at EDAG’s premises in Munich, Germany, for an exploitation workshop that aimed to propel forward the frontrunning key exploitable result (KER) of RECREATE. The KER deals with advancing solutions based on several technologies tackling sustainable composite materials with enhanced functionalities, poised to increase circularity in the automotive industry and in the mobility sector overall. The main goal of the workshop was to design an innovative circular business model according to which for these new sustainable-by-design composite materials, could be applied in various industrial contexts. Participants used the Lean Canvas methodology, and meticulously outlined the primary components essential for the success of the envisioned joint venture. In the upcoming phases, the partners involved will embark on preparing a comprehensive business plan, charting out a roadmap for execution, and meticulously evaluating potential exploitation methods.
