It’s interesting to see some similarities, at least with some parameters like movement and location being similar even when the handshape is different.
During our collaborative efforts between Deaf Aotearoa and DeafHealth, we learned several signs! Can you spot the similarities? 🤟 Stay Informed in ASL: We’ve got you covered! 📣 Inclusive communication is central to achieving trauma informed support for victim/ survivors with communication needs, including women and girls with learning disabilities. Yet gender-based violence survivors with communication needs are being denied access to justice and support. The ‘Listen to Us!’ report details recommendations for change ⬇️ It is vital that our government listen, act on guidance, and deliver on their promises for a better tomorrow. Listen to us! My advice is to refer families to the right service and person who know about sign language, total communication, and equipment like hearing aids and cochlear implants. Sending a child born deaf to social services, who may not use sign language, can harm the child's education and future job opportunities. Why send them to the council and social services? They should be sent to deaf and hearing loss services instead, unless the council has already learned about Deaf awareness, culture, history, and education etc. I have been told that some Teachers of the Deaf (TOD) avoid using sign language. Some Teachers of the Deaf (TOD) cannot use sign language. Ask for help to bring in a Communication Support Worker (CSW) with BSL Level 3 or 6! Also, contact a Deaf relay interpreter. #bslinourhands #gcse #deafchildren #BATOD #supporteachother
BSL Access: Parents' Perspectives In the second instalment of our series, two dedicated mothers share their experiences with early years professionals concerning British Sign Language. They discuss the varied attitudes they encountered and what they were told about incorporating BSL in their children's lives. Their insights reveal a crucial need for advocacy and support to ensure BSL is readily accessible to deaf children and their families from the very beginning. Let's unite to place BSL into the hands of deaf children and their parents. Join our campaign by "signing" our Handprint Petition and help us make a lasting impact. Learn more and add your support here: https://lnkd.in/ewc-2X5W Support us in advocating for BSL access for all deaf children. #BSLinourhands #HandprintPetition

ADA Compliance is not strictly specific to physical barriers. How does the ADA ensure work, recreational, and community environments are not discriminatory? Here are some of my ideas: *Produce a proactive PSA series. *Create a volunteer team to screen ADA compliance complaints to increase the number of complaints that get a formal review. *Offer a virtual ADA compliance certificate. *Partner with the insurance industry to decrease Workers Compensation and Directors & Officers premiums to businesses that require management and leadership to participate in ADA education. What are your ideas?
The burden of ensuring ADA compliance falls onto the 61 million Americans with disabilities. We must consistently fight for elevators to work, for sidewalks to be barrier free, for ramps to be the right pitch and free of trash. Here is why we need ADA police. #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityRights #AccessibleSpaces https://bit.ly/4arLV6A ID: A woman in a wheelchair sits at the bottom of a large staircase. There appears to be no accessibility features to use. She looks despondent and frustrated.

Our team gathered in Washington, DC to launch our groundbreaking Deaf Survivor Services program alongside our esteemed partners, Abused Deaf Women's Advocacy Services, Deaf DAWN, and Deaf Hope. We met with Rosie Hidalgo - Director of the U.S. Department of Justice, The Office on Violence Against Women to discuss the needs of Deaf survivors and the significance of this one-of-a-kind program. Regardless of where a Deaf survivor lives, through this program, they will have access to services and support in American Sign Language. We need to protect our Deaf children, raising awareness how to recognise the abuse and prevent from it. This is why it's important to have DBS/PVG check. VERY important. protect our younger generation. #deafawareness #deafabuse #protectthem #sacktheabuser https://lnkd.in/eaDtb88r
