Today, as we acknowledge #WorldMentalHealthDay, at the end of this day, I am reminded of how crucial it is to work in an environment that values not just performance, but the well-being of every individual. Over the past few days, I’ve had my own share of challenges, but I am incredibly grateful to be part of an organization like Gartner, where mental health is not just a topic for discussion, but a core value reflected in the support systems we have in place. As we are hearing incidents around us, in a fast-paced corporate world, it’s easy to overlook the human side of work. But having leaders who truly listen, understand, and take action reinforces how important it is to foster a culture where mental health is prioritized. I have been humbled today to realise, once again, that it's okay to ask for help instead of handling everything on your own. And this is a reminder to everyone else too. It’s okay to take a step back when needed. And most importantly, it’s okay to lean on those who support you. #worldmentalhealthday #prioritizingwellbeing

Whether you are confronting mental health/well-being challenges or not, please be familiar with available health and well-being resources, curated by Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) for IP professionals. #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek is an important initiative, but mental health challenges do not confine themselves to one week in the year. And the available resources are only one small part of what is needed to work toward IP professionals facing down mental health challenges, taking whatever steps are possible in the face of debilitating mental illness, and striving toward holistic health and well-being. Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) will be devoting resources this year toward fostering professionals' well-being through a variety of initiatives, including resources like the ones below, continuing education, and community initiatives. A world-class IP community is a healthy one.
This week is #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek. In the fast-paced world of intellectual property, mental health is crucial for fostering creativity, collaboration, and innovation. People want to work for organizations that prioritize their mental health. And they’re leaving organizations that don’t. They won’t trade burnout for a paycheck because they want more out of life. They want to be happy, feel fulfilled, and live meaningful lives. To do great work and feel great doing it. To be better parents and partners and leaders and teammates. Which means you can’t cross your fingers and hope for the best. Or wait until people are struggling before offering reactive care. We have the opportunity to reshape how we think about mental health. To be proactive instead of reactive. To create the kind of mentally healthy and fit cultures people want to work for and be a part of. So they can live their best lives at work and at home. Organizations who want to recruit and retain top talent need to recognize people’s mental health needs – and wants – have changed. They want to work for you if you’re offering modern and relevant solutions. And they’re leaving if you don’t. Big thanks to Joshua Siegal – multi-time Head of People – for joining me for this “Ask Me Anything”. You're awesome. #burnoutprevention #employeeretention #mentalheath

Breaking the Silence on Mental Health 🧠 In professional settings, we often don an armour of 'perfection', fearing that showing vulnerability could be seen as weakness. But let's face it, mental health issues do not discriminate; they can touch anyone, at any level, in any field. Initiating candid conversations around mental health is critical in dispelling myths and eradicating the stigma. By sharing our own experiences and challenges, we create a ripple effect of awareness and empathy. It's time we redefine strength in the workplace — not as the absence of struggle, but as the courage to be open and to support each other. Companies need to lead by example, promoting policies and creating spaces where mental well-being is prioritized. From flexible working arrangements to confidential support systems, every step towards inclusivity helps shape a culture of openness. Let's challenge the norm. Let's talk about mental health, not as a taboo, but as a pillar of our collective human experience. Only then can we foster an environment where everyone feels empowered to thrive. #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #WorkplaceWellbeing

Today is World Mental Health Day, an initiative that began in 1992 to destigamtize and prioritorize mental health and well being. This year's theme is: 'It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace ' How would you rate the mental health support in your work? We are evolving toward flexbile hours, hybrid work spaces, wellness programs, nap rooms, sports activities, toward working to live. But, long work hours are still obvious, rigid hierarchies still exist, glass ceilings are still there, stigma exists, etc. I was a victim to a toxic work environment. In my Upcoming Book: " Yellow Paint: Learning to Live Again" I discuss the impacts of that and the contribution it made to my catastrophic health crisis. Yep, it gets serious. Dialectial Behavioral Theory equates a toxic relationship with drug and alcohol abuse. Poison is Poison is Poison. Don't get me wrong. I worked with wonderful people. Extremely skilled clinicians. There were key elements of mental health unidentified and/ misunderstood at that time. But now we know more, don't we? #accountability #mentalhealth #karengoslinrsw #yellowpaint #therapy #TorontoTherapy #healthyworkplaces #HealthyWorkplaces #healthyworkplacesforall #healthyworkplacestoronto

The Silent Struggle: Lending a Voice to Mental Health Over time, I dedicate part of my free time to conducting health talks, leveraging my professional background to address relatable topics and pressing issues. This initiative is driven by a belief in the transformative power of knowledge and empowerment. Recently, the stark reality of mental health challenges became apparent to me following a session I conducted on mental wellness for a group of women in my local community. The encounter was eye-opening, highlighting the sheer number of individuals in dire need of support. What struck me most was the pervasive stigma surrounding mental health, a phenomenon that is not limited to my immediate surroundings but is a global concern. The session was meant to be a straightforward discussion on health, yet it unveiled the silent struggles many endure, encapsulated by the phrase “suffering and smiling,” by a renowned past artist The personal stories shared with me since then have been both enlightening and deeply moving. This newfound awareness has ignited a passion within me to raise awareness, and to assist more people in finding the help they need. It’s crucial to dispel the myths that prevent people from seeking necessary and timely assistance. Going forward, I will contribute my quota by giving more attention to this in my spare time. The significance of this issue knows no bounds—it impacts families, children, and indeed, the workplace is not immune. Your colleagues may well be navigating these challenges silently. People need help and they are all around us - we can make a difference; one person at a time. #YourMentalHealthMatters
