Food insecurity is a growing concern across Pinellas County. We are honored to work with Daystar Life Center, Inc. through our #projecttryton initiative. According to Feeding America's Map the Meal Gap 2020 study, which used data from 2018: Pinellas County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.2% (124,430 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.1% (38,080 children) Hillsborough County: - Food insecurity rate: 12.6% (178,820 people) - Child food insecurity rate: 19.5% (61,600 children) It's important to note that these numbers are from before the COVID-19 pandemic, which likely exacerbated food insecurity in these counties and across the United States. Feeding America projected that the overall food insecurity rate for the United States could have reached up to 15.6% in 2020 due to the economic impact of the pandemic. #endhunger

Thank you for sharing this important information. Food insecurity is a critical issue, and we're pleased to be part of the #projecttryton initiative alongside Kairos. The stats you've provided paint a concerning picture of food insecurity rates in our community, especially among children. These numbers, though pre-pandemic, highlight the ongoing need for support. We're excited to keep working together towards a hunger-free, financially stable future.
