🚗 The importance of sustainable transportation Sustainability is one of the cornerstones of our company, and something we embed in everything we do. In celebration of European Mobility Week, we want to highlight our efforts in electrifying our fleet. We are committed to electric and hydrogen solutions for our transportation needs. Some numbers: 🔌 43% of our company cars are electric: We have many more electric vehicles on order and will continue to replace our fossil-fuel cars with electric ones. 🔋 10 electric vans on the road: We currently have 10 electric vans for transporting goods to our sites, and this number will expand in the coming years. 🚲 Almost 100 leased bikes: Many of our colleagues bike to work, which we strongly support as a company. 💧 4 hydrogen pool cars: These cars can be fueled at our headquarters and are available for use by our colleagues. Soon, we will be producing the hydrogen ourselves in a 100% sustainable process. We still have a long way to go to make all our transportation fully sustainable, but we strive to improve every day. European Mobility Week is kicking off! 🥳 🚗Today marks the start of #EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK, the European Commission’s campaign promoting sustainable urban mobility. As we shift towards cleaner transport solutions, #aluminium is playing a vital role in making EU vehicles lighter, more energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly. #DYK that the average car produced in Europe now contains about 205 kg of aluminium, which is nearly 14% of the vehicle's total weight? With the rise of electric vehicles (#EVs), which use on average about 283 kg of aluminium per car, this lightweight metal is crucial in reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. Aluminium’s role in making cars lighter and more sustainable is set to grow even further, with forecasts predicting a need for nearly 5 million tonnes annually by 2030. Let’s drive the change towards a more sustainable future together! Today our Volvo Cars Head of Global Sustainability,Vanessa Butani, joined a media briefing on the 2035 Zero-Emission Goal hosted by AVERE - The European Association for Electromobility together with Aaron Fishbone, Marie Hammer and Christian Hahn. Vanessa highlighted the need for European policy makers to stick to the vision of decarbonization that has been set, and to invest in clean technologies that can help the European industry contribute to these goals. Tailpipe emissions are a car’s biggest carbon footprint, cutting them is the first urgent step to take. That is why Volvo Cars fully support the 2035 CO2 targets for passenger cars. She noted the challenges of keeping the European auto market competitive in tough economic and market conditions. What we need is to invest in strategic technologies and create enabling conditions, such as the full battery value chain and fast charging infrastructure. “Europe needs to remain relevant, and to do that we need to be fast – we can’t just keep kicking the can down the road because that will only increase the gap in competitiveness [with other regions]. Challenging the CO2 emissions target is not the answer”. Let’s focus instead on measures to support the industry in its green and digital transition!
