China's largest cargo drone, developed by Sichuan Tengden Sci-tech Innovation Co., successfully completed its maiden flight on August 11, 2024, in Sichuan province. aThe twin-engine unmanned aircraft, with a payload capacity of 2 metric tons, marks a significant milestone in China's growing low-altitude economy. This test flight follows a push by the Chinese government to expand the low-altitude sector, with a target industry valuation of $279 billion by 2030. The drone, slightly larger than the popular Cessna 172, is part of broader efforts to integrate drones into commercial logistics, promising shorter delivery times and reduced transport costs. China is already leveraging drone technology for commercial deliveries, with the potential for future applications, including aerial taxi services. #China #CargoDrone #Aviation #TechInnovation #LowAltitudeEconomy #SichuanTengden #DroneTechnology #Logistics #FutureOfTransport #AviationMilestone

👏 Using #VTOL cargo #drones to transport successfully goods from Malpensa Airport 🇮🇹 to a logistics centre 📦 On the night of 8/9 July, a first set of test flights was carried out using drones with vertical take-off and landing (#VTOL) capabilities to fly cargo from the airport's Cargo City to Barbarini & Foglia's logistics warehouse. The flights were conducted by Technosky using a NIMBUS cargo drone model performing an 8 km round trip twice, and transporting a small payload. The flights continued the following night, departing from the same starting point and flying 7km to the SEBI logistics warehouse. 🥅 The goal of the flight trials? To test this innovative transport mode enabled by U-space U1 and U2 services, in this case provided by D-flight, and without affecting manned aviation operations ✈️. The trials will contribute to potentially launching large-scale drone cargo delivery services in the future - a step forward that would bring key benefits such as 🔑 faster delivery times 🔑 lower CO2 emissions vs road transport A new round of flights operated by Telespazio with Dronus and other operators are scheduled for Autumn 2024. The flights were performed as part of the Italian Demonstration Cluster (led by ENAV, the 🇮🇹 #ANSP) of the U-ELCOME DSD Project, in which SEA Milan Airports is coordinating the Milan Sandbox. SEA Milan Airports collaborates with the Italian partners of the project (ENAV, D-flight, EuroUSC Italia, Telespazio, TECHNO SKY, NIMBUS, NAIS and Dronus) in planning and developing the flight campaigns, and with ENAC for the regulatory aspects, the flight authorisations and the implementation of the Milan Sandbox. The U-ELCOME project, coordinated by #EIH the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub, aims to accelerate the implementation of U-space services across Europe. The project has received funding from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) under the #CEF Connecting Europe Facility in cooperation with the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking as one of its flagship Digital Sky Demonstrators (#DSDs).

INTERVIEW: Zag speaks with SkeyDrone’s Nele Coghe about their latest Drone Detection Report covering 75% of the Belgian coastline. “In total, we recorded over 1,100 drone flights. We collected this data over July and August…On average, the drone flights were rather short, lasting four minutes. We also analysed the types of drones that were used, and almost 75% were DJI Minis. The average height for a drone to fly was 218 ft above ground level, nicely below the 400ft limit. However, we did see a number of drones surpass this limit and fly higher than what’s permitted in the Open category.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eJ5HEYWZ
