“Trust, but verify.” – Ronald Reagan This timeless quote reminds us that trust is the foundation of relationships, whether in business, politics, or personal life. But trust alone isn’t enough; verification ensures that actions align with words and promises are kept. Reagan often used this phrase during arms control negotiations, emphasizing the balance between faith in others and the responsibility to hold them accountable. In today’s fast-paced world, this principle is more relevant than ever. Whether you’re building partnerships, managing a team, or pursuing personal goals, trust fosters collaboration, while verification ensures clarity and accountability. How do you incorporate “trust, but verify” into your daily life? "Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?" — Abraham Lincoln In a world where competition can sometimes feel like a battlefield, it's easy to view others as adversaries. But what if, instead of focusing on defeating our "enemies," we focused on transforming those relationships? 🤝 Abraham Lincoln, one of the most respected leaders in history, understood the power of turning opposition into alliance. His leadership during one of the most divided times in American history is a testament to this principle. Rather than fostering animosity, Lincoln sought common ground and connection, even with those who opposed him. This approach not only diffused conflicts but also created opportunities for collaboration and unity. 🌱 In today's professional landscape, we can learn a lot from Lincoln's wisdom. Whether it's a colleague with a different perspective, a competitor in the market, or even a challenging client, the key to success isn't always in winning the argument or outmaneuvering the other party. Sometimes, the true victory lies in building bridges and finding ways to work together. 🌉 When we transform our adversaries into allies, we open up new possibilities for growth, innovation, and success. We create environments where diverse ideas can thrive, and where collaboration can lead to greater achievements than we could ever reach on our own. 💼 So, the next time you find yourself facing a "rival," consider Lincoln's wisdom. Seek to understand, find common ground, and who knows? You might just turn a challenge into an opportunity. #Leadership #Collaboration #AbrahamLincoln #Teamwork #GrowthMindset

Have you ever felt the tension of a power dynamic, where one misstep could overshadow your hard work? The first of Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power talks just about that and here is my take on how it masterfully encapsulates the idea of respecting authority. "Never outshine the master." This timeless adage from Robert Greene's 48 Laws of Power serves as a powerful reminder of the delicate balance between ambition and discretion. While it’s essential to showcase your skills and abilities, it's equally important to avoid upstaging those in positions of authority. By treading carefully and recognizing the power dynamics at play, you can navigate the corporate ladder with grace and finesse. Key takeaway: Always acknowledge the contributions of your superiors and avoid appearing to be a threat. #leadership #strategy #power #careeradvice #48LawsOfPower

What I learned from Leon Panetta during my week at the Panetta Institute in 2011. Integrity is showing respect toward your opponent no matter what. Integrity is having character so that your words mirror your actions. Integrity is bringing value to the table even if you are not wanted there by all, you know your role there. Integrity is acknowledging mistakes and being open to being wrong — with no fear to change a past position. Integrity builds up the leader who can stand strong winning OR losing. Integrity makes the leader who can instill resilience in times of war AND peace.

It’s a very timely article this - and I think I’ve seen this phenomenon work in so many ways! In practice, I’ve seen it compound pre-existing stereotypes that may exist; for example if you present yourself in a certain way then you are just naturally more instinctively associated with being charismatic by others - or not. Honestly, I see that with founders and their ability to raise money. Often I’ve seen this form of “leadership” actually manifest best in “matching” the societal meta of how you’re perceived - which is the counter narrative to the “leaning into your uniqueness” spiel. For example, if you look well-read / learned which I’ve been told I do, then it’s a cognitive jump for the person / people you’re interacting with to experience something totally different! I wonder if others have noticed the same?
On the one hand, my column for this week feels light compared to everything else going on in the world. I mean, it has the word "rizz" in it, for goodness' sake. On the other, the topic - charisma, connecting with others, making people feel seen and inspired - is central to so many parts of our lives, from politics to friendships to work. It *is* leadership, Charles Duhigg told me. Done right, it can get you promoted, make people like you, change your life. Click through to read more about what charisma is (and isn't), plus tips for nailing your own specific brand of charm. And tell me: how do you connect with others at work? https://lnkd.in/ezCwkhqs

A person of integrity lives bound by sound principles and is motivated through ethical behavior. Integrity is the most important trait of leadership in our society because regardless of what other beneficial characteristics exist, people will not follow someone unless they have established trust with them. 👍👍👍 #integritymatters #leadershiptips #mondayquote

You don't need a title to be a leader! Last week I really enjoyed giving a talk to the Network of Women at City of London Police. We covered how personality is the key to diversity and how truly understanding yourself means you are far better placed to lead others. If you are someone who is thinking "I'm not a leader because I don't manage a team or staff member" think again! You don't need a title to be a leader! A leader is someone who has other people who look up to them for direction, to coach and guide them through challenges. Now that could be a child, a friend, a family member, anyone who relies on you! Truly understanding your strengths and weaknesses, and also those beliefs you have about yourself enables you to support those who are relying on you. It means you won't have to wear that mask and pretend to be someone else, you can be yourself, and guess what....you are bloody amazing! #beyourself #leadershipcoach #introvert #introvertedleader #authenticallyyou
