As part of the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), eclareon GmbH and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Angola (AHK Angola) conducted a fact-finding mission for decision-makers and SMEs from Angola from June 24th to the 28th, 2024 in Düsseldorf and Krefeld, Germany. During the business visit, Germany's leadership in green hydrogen technology and infrastructure was a key highlight, offering unique insights to Angolan stakeholders. The discussions centred on the potential for Angola to leverage its renewable energy resources for green hydrogen production, a move that could significantly boost economic growth and energy security. The fact-finding mission was a valuable opportunity for participants to gain a deep understanding of green hydrogen technology and its applications, and to establish connections with German businesses. The mission also included site visits to German enterprises and best-practice initiatives, as well as a networking event. One of the key takeaways from the mission was the potential for strategic partnerships between German and Angolan companies. Such collaborations could facilitate the exchange of knowledge, innovations, and best practices, leading to significant economic and political benefits for Angola. By accelerating its entry into the green hydrogen market, Angola could not only make a substantial contribution to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions but also inspire and motivate other nations to follow suit. While the topic of green H2 was under discussion, the primary focus was on addressing the question, 'What should be done with this carrier?' It was made clear to all that the main goal is direct electrification and then consider the end use for transformational/transport purposes. The surplus energy could be effectively utilised for either transporting goods to neighbouring countries or generating hydrogen for industrial purposes. The excursion also served to highlight Angola's superior renewable energy generation capabilities compared to Namibia. 📢 TotalEnergies Accelerates #Decarbonization at LA MEDE Platform with Renewable Hydrogen Project! As part of its ambitious 2030 decarbonization goal, TotalEnergies is teaming up with Air Liquide to produce renewable hydrogen at the La Mède platform in southeast France. This new initiative complements the Masshylia project and is set to cut 130,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. 🌱⚡ 🔋 Key Project Details: Air Liquide will build and operate a renewable hydrogen production unit at La Mède, with an annual capacity of 25,000 tons. The hydrogen produced will power biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production. €150 million investment from TotalEnergies and Air Liquide. Production begins in 2028. This project plays a crucial role in the decarbonization of the La Mède biorefinery and further strengthens the region’s transition to a low-carbon energy future.
